Christmas quilting

Christmas quilting

It’s always fun to quilt other people’s Christmas quilts!

Marty used up her Christmas scraps and made 2 awesome Christmas quilts!

Here’s a couple of table runners by Marilyn.  It pays to plan ahead and make your backing big enough to load both table runners on the same piece.

It’s hard to see the quilting from the front but it shows really well on the back!

Thanks for looking and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Wall Hanging #2

Christmas Wall Hanging #2

Here’s Barb’s second Christmas wall hanging. Isn’t it adorable?!  Now I really want to make a wall hanging!  For this project we decided on custom quilting with double batting.  The bottom layer is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton and the top layer is Dream Puff.

A small meander flattens the area around the cardinal and a branchy meander flattens the area around the piecing. The double batting enhances the other stitching in the blocks and borders, too.  I love it!

This wall hanging is about 29 inches square and the double batting gives it nice body and some weight.  I definitely have a wall hanging on my to do list so I can use double batting again!

How’s your Christmas sewing progressing?

Christmas Wall Hanging #1

Christmas Wall Hanging #1

It’s been fun to quilt several Christmas themed quilts or wall hangings this year.  Kinda makes me want to make one!  I guess it’ll have to be next year!  Barb has made 2 Christmas wall hangings and for this one we decided to use a simple meander and Quilter’s Dream Blend batting.

For and economical and classic look, the simple meander is perfect.  The meander can be sized smaller to give it texture and easier to stitch through those areas that needs some flattening, like the pinwheel intersections.

Aren’t Christmas quilts fun!  I have to admit that I have a Christmas UFO hanging in my closet, just needs to be quilted!  Maybe next year I’ll quilt mine!  This is one of three Christmas themed quilts Marty brought me for quilting.  It was fun to follow the style of the quilt and quilt it with ribbons and a fun flower in the negative spaces. The thread matches in the negative spaces but I love the great texture it creates when the light hits it.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior Threads OMNI.

How’s your Christmas sewing going?  Have a great stitching weekend!!

Crazy Christmas Cats!

Crazy Christmas Cats!

Here’s a fun applique, buttons and bells quilt made by Linda.  This quilt  jingled as I quilted along!  To keep the quilt soft and cuddly we decided on a medium meander for the backgrounds and some outlining and detail quilting around or through the applique.  Won’t this be a fun quilt to have for the Christmas holidays?!
