Happy Leap Day!

Happy Leap Day!

I’m out of the studio this week (I’m helping out at my sister’s shop for the week) but I wanted to make a Leap Day Post before it was over!

During my breaks, I’ve managed to do some hexie sewing.  I’m tempted to bring my sewing machine, too, I miss my sewing time!

I’ll get back to the longarm this weekend, deadlines are looming!

I can’t believe it’s March already!  I am currently scheduling quilts for late April and May, if you need your project quilted for graduation please contact me by email:  linda at lrdesignsquilting dot com

Another Quilt Wrangling!

Another Quilt Wrangling!

Here’s another one of the big quilts I wrangled!  I should have taken a picture of it loaded on the longarm, it filled the space! Emily wanted an E2E and gave me free reign to pick it.  I had fun combining a couple of freehand designs to compliment the fabric in the big blocks.  So, I don’t really have a name but how about  Nouveau feathers with stylized shell meander.

The solid brown fabric shows off the stitching, too.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior OMNI in the needle and So Fine 50 in the bobbin.

I did a PSQ block!

I did a PSQ block!

I followed Mary’s PSQ demonstration and now I have one 64 charm block!  Her demo was perfect but I goofed up a couple of times and had to fix it so my seams would go the right direction.  The charms are 1 1/2″, the block is 8 1/2″.

I’m still cutting up fabric for the Postage Stamp Quilt Swap and Challenge and hope I have enough for whatever the next challenge or swap is!  I’m cutting 1 1/2″, 2″ and 2 1/2″ squares but I plan to swap the 2″.

I’m adding 1 1/2 inch strips to my cutting sizes because I just bought the Pineapple tool and the Trash to Treasure book by Gyleen X. Fitzgerald.  Between squares and strips, I’m going to make scrap quilts using my stash!

Thimbleberries Club 2004 Loose Ends

Thimbleberries Club 2004 Loose Ends

In an effort to organize my fabric and scraps for cutting, I keep finding more unfinished projects!  Here’s 2 wall hangings from a 2004 Thimbleberries club, they just need to be quilted.

Both of them have applique and hand stitching!  Something that I don’t do very often.

The next one is in really unfinished.  The center block is complete and I’m pretty sure I’ll never complete this as the pattern is written.  I’m not interested in doing the applique, etc.  Any suggestions?

In defense of myself, I did do most of the projects that year.  Each month was a small project and a block.  And at the end of the year you assembled a big quilt.  I’ll add a photo of that quilt to my gallery soon.  One of my favorite quilts, I made from the scraps (I’ll post that photo too) and I still have lots of scraps left!

Quilt Wrangling!

Quilt Wrangling!

I’ve been wrangling some big quilts lately and I still have a few more to go!  Here’s a fairly large quilt by Connie.  It’s bigger than my hanging space!

We decided to quilt it with a overall freehand shell meander, maybe you would call it peacock  feathers or 1, 2, 3.  Do you have a name for this quilting design?

The thread is Superior OMNI and the batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select.

Bonus!  The back is pieced!  The thread matches so well, it’s hard to see but it would make a nice reversible quilt.

Our quilt guild had a trunk show this week and the presenters pieced most of their backs from the leftover project fabrics.  Now, that’s one way not to have lots of fabric scraps!  What do you prefer?
