Bryana + Sam Wedding quilt

Bryana + Sam Wedding quilt

Yes, a New Year’s Eve wedding!  One of my younger cousins was getting married, so I teamed up with my cousin, Joellyn to make Bryana and Sam a wedding quilt!  Back in August we picked this new fabric, Melrose by Red Rooster, no problem, plenty of time to make a quilt for 12-31-11!  Well, by the end of October the fabric had not arrived to Rainbows and Calico Things, (I work there) and I was getting worried!  However, I stuck with my plan knowing the quilt would sew up quickly and the fabric was perfect for this bride.  I was hoping it would match her wedding colors, (which it did!).

My quilt plan combined a Baby Bricks quilt pattern and Squares and Rectangles from AllPeopleQuilt.  Each one had elements that I liked and here’s what my quilt looks like!  I rewrote the pattern to use strip piecing techniques, speeding up the time needed to make the blocks.   The quilt measures 66″ x 78″, a nice size for a twin or couch cuddling!

The border fabric is the same as the squares which creates a floating effect and the clustered fabrics gives the quilt a fresh modern feel.  I decided on freehand swirly spirals quilting, Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and a grey OMNI  thread.

I used my favorite fabric from the Melrose line and pieced in some of the extra bricks for the back.

Thank you to my cousin, Joellyn, who encouraged and supported me along the way.  The label was done and sewn on the day before the wedding!

I’m back at the longarm working on customer quilts and planning projects for this year.

Just Keep Stitching!

Linda
