Pat’s Lone Star Quilt

Pat’s Lone Star Quilt

Do you have an unfinished quilt you’ve put off quilting or have an unfinished gift or auction purchase?  Pat’s Lone Star quilt has been waiting to quilted for awhile and I was very excited she brought it to me!  Now she can finish the binding and have a great wallhanging.   The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend and the thread is Superior Threads So Fine #50.  I have a small selection of extra wide backing fabric which we used for this quilt.

Drew and Abby’s Wedding quilt

Drew and Abby’s Wedding quilt

When Drew and Abby set their wedding date a year and half ago, I was very excited because that would give me lots of time to make a very special quilt for them!   I did not want to make a king size quilt so opted for a lap size knowing that it was doable.  Abby is so artistic and creative which inspired me to start making  “wonky” or irregular log cabin blocks with all the batik scraps left over from many other quilts.  I sorted the fabrics into color groups to organize for sewing the logs from the same color family.  I should have taken a picture while I was sewing, my whole sewing room was covered with little piles of fabric!!  I wanted to quilt it with back and forth feathers which works best set on point.  And then decided to leave off the corner setting triangles leaving the non traditional shape.   Even though I had all this time to sew, I still was finishing the blocks a couple weeks before the wedding and if my sister, Patty, had not encouraged me to keep at it, it would probably still be unfinished!!  So, I stopped sewing blocks and the quilt became the size out of necessity.  The small blocks that where left ended up in the pieced back.  Enjoy the pictures, let me know what you think!

Kyle’s Photo Grad Quilt

Kyle’s Photo Grad Quilt

If you can believe it, this is Lisa’s first quilt!!!  She did have a good teacher, Barb at Rainbows and Calico Things Quilt Shop to guide her along on her first venture into quilting.  This was a very fun project to quilt with some considerations.  Most photo quilts I just stitch right through the photo disregarding the picture or I outline the photo with SID, but the featured portrait photos were so large  that I decided to quilt a vignette frame for each one spacing each one slightly different because of the blocking of the picture.  Here’s a few photos, let me know what you think.

American Barn quilt by Shelby

American Barn quilt by Shelby

This quilt is awesome and the quilt maker is a senior in high school!  Obviously, this is not her first quilt!  For me, it was an adventure to design the quilting.  Shelby likes Hobbs Heirloom Wool Batting which is great for showing off the quilting designs.  I decided to make something different for each element of the quilt to emphasize the sampler aspect of the quilt.  My granddaughter even got involved in doodling out some designs!  I think she’ll be sewing and quilting soon!  Enjoy the pictures and hopefully Shelby will keep sewing after she goes to college this fall.

Rainbows Summer Fruits

Rainbows Summer Fruits

Barb of Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop makes great quilts!  Her fabric selection is awesome!  Check out her quilt shop online or in person.  Here’s one of her latest dubbed “Summer Fruits”.  The placement of the greens and pinks make a super canvas for fun quilting and variegated thread.  I decided to quilt it with “back and forth” feathers using the blocks as guides which creates another pattern with the stitching.  The borders are quilted with separate designs and the zig zag inner border is quilted with double back and forth feathers.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton.
