BlockBase Sew Along – Block 12

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 12

Block 12

For the final block in the BlockBase Sew Along, we picked our block!  My parameters were:  finish at 10″ and no triangles.   With a little searching, I picked block 1829, Country Lanes.

What’s next?  How do I design a quilt with blocks ranging from 8 to 10 inches?  Frames!   I found a dark red in my stash and started making twist frames.  Here’s 6 of them with the first frame.

I’ll add a second frame and then square them up to the same size.  I’m not sure what the second color will be but I’m trying to use something from my stash of fabric.  If I can use one of my vintage yardages, all the better!

Stay tuned to see how long it takes me to make this into a flimsy and then a finished product!  Who knows, it may join many other projects languishing in Linda’s Loose Ends pile!

Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!

Block 11 twice

Here’s my Block 11, done twice, for the BlockBase Sew Along.  For simplicity sake, the block finishes at 10″.  This allowed me to use 2 1/2″ squares and the Quilt in a Day Flying Geese ruler.

Following BlockBase, I made this block first.

After some research on the Rolling Nine Patch and finding this image,  I tried it with some slightly different fabrics and blocks.

So, I’m not really sure which block I like best, but I’ve got 2 to choose from when I try to design a layout for the 12 blocks in the sew along.

Next week, the last block will be revealed and then it’ll be time to plan the quilt for these blocks!

Block 10

Here’s my Block 10 for the BlockBase Sew Along!  Thanks to my quilting buddy, Candace, for printing off the paper piecing templates for me!  This was a fun block to make and I really like the interlocking illusion of the colors.  The outside color is bright blue but it doesn’t look that way on my computer!  Oh well, it could be my camera, too.

Block 9

Here’s my Block 9 for the BlockBase Sew Along.  My first thought was, wow, look at all the pieces!  I followed the cutting instructions for an 8″ block and it went together perfectly.  As always, the hard part is picking out the fabric.  I decided to stay lighter for this one, using one of the fabrics from block 8.

Here’s the link to see what others did for Block 9.

9 blocksNine blocks done, 3 to go.  Look at all the variety!  Now, to figure out how to make a quilt out of these!

Block 8

Here’s my block 8 for the BlockBase Sew Along. This time we could choose between 2 blocks, #1407a or #1401.   I chose #1401 to avoid set in seams!

I used Triangles on a Roll to make the 1 1/2″ finished half square triangles.  The other elements are squares and rectangles, easy.   I wasn’t intending my make a monochromatic block but the fabrics were in a remnant pile and they looked good!  It’s actually much prettier in person, my camera doesn’t like to photograph this color.

Here’s the link to see how others completed block 8.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda
