BlockBase Sew Along – Block 7

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 7

Block 7

Here’s my block 7 for the BlockBase Sew Along.  This one finishes at 9 inches.  I used Triangles On a Roll to make all the little 1 1/2″ finished half square triangles.  For the flying geese, I used the Eleanor Burns Flying Geese ruler.  Once I figured out the finished size needed to make every element, it was a piece of cake!  I love how it looks!

Do you have a favorite method for making Flying Geese blocks?

getting organized

I’m off to a quilting retreat sponsored by Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop!!!  If you want to follow along with all the stitchin’ and …more…check out my facebook page!  I’m excited to see how much sewing I can get done in 3 days.  Some of the projects are secret but I’ll share my progress on the others.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Block 6

Here’s my Block 6 for the BlockBase Sew Along.  A big thanks to Candace, my quilting buddy, for the paper piecing templates!  Like blocks 1, 2 and 3, this block finishes 8 inches.  I followed the color way featured in BlockBase, combining vintage and new fabrics.

6 blocks

Six blocks done!  Six to go!  I love the look of them and it will be fun to incorporate them into a quilt.

I can’t believe we’re almost to the end of 2012!  Stay tuned for customer quilts and Christmas gifts posts!

Thanks for looking!!  🙂 Linda

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 5

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 5

Here’s my 5th block for the BlockBase Sew Along.  Like Block 4, it finishes at 9 inches.  The units are 3 1/2″ squares with 2″ squares in the corners (sew and flip method).  The fabrics are from the vintage stash recovered from my sister’s house!  I love it!  This would be a great block to design a quilt around.

My boss at Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop, hosted the most fabulous Christmas party!  She drove us around Iowa for our own shop hop!  And yes, I did increase my stash a little.  I was most excited about the stores that had scrap bags for sale!   I love getting those bags of remnants, I might need some medication for that sickness!

Thanks for looking.  I’m behind on posting customer quilts and when I get a break from Christmas quilts, I’ll catch up!

🙂 Linda

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 4

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 4

My design wall is bare today, except for Block 4 of the BlockBase Sew Along.

For this block, I used 1 1/2″ strips and 2 1/2″ squares in the corners.  This block finishes 9″ and my other blocks are 8″.  The 3 x 3 grid element of this block made it harder to complete as an 8″ without paper piecing.  It’s such a simple block, I decided let it be 9″.  We’ll see what happens with the next block!

Once again, the fabrics are from my newly acquired vintage stash!  It’s a little busy but I like it!

Check out Judy at Patchwork Times for other design wall Monday projects!

Thanks for looking!  :)Linda

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 3

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 3

Here’s my 3rd block for the BlockBase Sew Along.  It’s #2448.  A big thank you to Candace for making the paper pieced templates with EQ7 and sharing them with me!!

I’m still using mostly vintage fabrics from the flea market.  Following the coloring in BlockBase, I used 9 fabrics.  I like how it turned out, especially with the red squares.
