New Year Book Giveaway!

New Year Book Giveaway!

Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer ChiaveriniTHIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED.

The publishers of Jennifer Chiaverini’s newest book, Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, asked if I would review her yet to be released novel.  Of course my answer was, yes!, and that I would host a giveaway, too.

Here’s a quote from the publishers-

In a life that spanned nearly a century and witnessed some of the most momentous events in American history, Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born a slave. She earned her freedom by the skill of her needle, and won the friendship of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln by her devotion. In her sweeping historical novel, Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini illuminates the extraordinary relationship the two women shared, beginning in the hallowed halls of the White House during the trials of the Civil War and enduring almost, but not quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s days.

You may notice that Jennifer Chiaverini has departed from her bestselling Elm Creek Quilts series to debut her first stand alone novel with Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker.   As a fan of historical fiction, I’m looking forward to reading this.  Stay tuned for my review!

Over the next 2 weeks, I will be posting excerpts from a terrific Q&A with Jennifer about her research and how she first came to learn of Elizabeth’s story.  In the meantime, if you would like to win this advance copy of Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, leave a comment about your sewing or crafting journey, ( i.e. “were you a dressmaker before you were a quilt maker?” ) on this post before midnight CST January 14, 2013 and I will draw the winner by random generator January 15, 2013.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Design Wall Monday

Design Wall Monday

I’m back to playing with the Paisley Party fabric.  My original plan of randomly sewing my leftovers together wasn’t working out so I made all the units the same size as the 4 patch blocks.  Here’s my latest arrangement.  I like it!   I have a few blocks leftover which I can sew into the back.  It’ll be a little quilt, 36″ x 36″, perfect for someone’s baby!

Check Judy at Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects.

Thanks for looking!  🙂 Linda

A NEW BOOK GIVEAWAY!

A NEW BOOK GIVEAWAY!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER!  THANKS!!

The publishers of Jennifer Chiaverini’s new novel, The Giving Quilt, asked if I would review her yet to be released novel and host a giveaway!  Of course I said yes!  Not only do I love to read, I love hosting giveaways on my blog!

Here’s a blurb from the publishers:

At Elm Creek Manor, the week after Thanksgiving is “Quiltsgiving,” a time to commence a season of generosity. From near and far, quilters and aspiring quilters—a librarian, a teacher, a college student, and a quilt shop clerk among them—gather for a special winter session of quilt camp to make quilts for Project Linus.

Each quilter, ever mindful that many of her neighbors, friends, and family members are struggling through difficult times, uses her creative gifts to alleviate their collective burden. As the week unfolds, the quilters respond to Sylvia’s provocative question in ways as varied as the life experiences that drew them to Elm Creek Manor. Love and comfort are sewn into the warm, bright, beautiful quilts they stitch, and their stories collectively consider the strength of human connection, and its rich rewards.

Featuring not only well-loved characters but intriguing newcomers, The Giving Quilt will remind us all: Giving from the heart blesses the giver as much as the recipient, and while giving may not always be easy, it is always worthwhile.

The Giving Quilt is a great read and if you’ve been waiting for her stories to go back to Elm Creek Manor and Sylvia, you won’t be disappointed.  Even though the book has a quilting theme, anyone would enjoy this novel.

The book is scheduled to be released October 30, 2012, and I would like to give my advance copy to one lucky reader!

How can you win?  Easy!  Leave a comment about your favorite time to read on this post before midnight CST, October 28, 2012.  My DH will draw the winner from a hat Monday, October 29, 2012.

Good luck!  🙂 Linda
