New Firebird Pantograph

New Firebird Pantograph

I love it when I try a new pantograph “hoping” that it will look great and “loving” it when it does!  I felt this way about Joanie’s recent wedding quilt.  Her granddaughter had picked out the Valori Wells quilt kit and it’s so modern and fresh that I wanted the quilting to compliment that.  The pantograph, Firebird by Meadow Lyon is fairly small which is nice for the very large blocks and the thread is a Superior Threads So Fine putty which is slightly darker than the lightest fabric.  The result is awesome!!  As I hung this quilt for photographing, several family members commented on it.  The “younger” members loved it and the “older” did not!  What do you think?

Two-sided quilt with African fabrics

Two-sided quilt with African fabrics

Sheri has created an incredible two-sided quilt using fabric her daughter got in Tanzania.  We decided black thread and an overall pantograph, Fern Meander, were the best elements for the quilting.   This pantograph adds movement and texture with a very organic feel.  To insure the batting would not shadow through, we used Quilter’s Dream Poly Black.

On a side note, in Tanzania, the Obama panels are worn as wraps or skirts.

Double Nickel Quilt Challenge

Double Nickel Quilt Challenge

Here’s a couple quilts from Candy’s Double Nickel Quilt Challenge.  Check out her blog for more information.  “Nickel I Spy #2”  is a great kids quilt!  The Bubbles pantograph and King Tut variegated thread are the perfect compliments to  a fun quilt like this.

The Ziggaty Zag quilt is awesome!  For this wallhanging some simple feathers in the border and stitching to mimic the center are the best quilting choices.

New favorite pantograph

Here’s a new pantograph that’s great for baby or kid’s quilts.  It’s very fun and whimsical.  It’s called Butterflies and Loops by Sue Schmieden.  Wendy’s quilt is very graphic with bright fabric and black thread.  Karen’s more subtle with modern fabric and white thread.
