Design Wall Monday – Haley’s Stash

Design Wall Monday – Haley’s Stash

second design

Our granddaughter, Haley, is staying with us and yesterday we cut her stash into 5 inch squares!   At first, she wanted to arrange her squares to spell 1 D, for the band One Direction. (If you have a 10 year old girl in your family, you’ll know who they are!!)  I steered her away from that and this is the design she made.  Next time we’ll tackle sewing the squares together.  Wish me luck!!!

My other design wall is sorting charms for the next Postage Stamp Quilt swap!

sorting charms again!

This is how I sort 100 different charms for swapping.  I throw in a couple extra for safe measure.  Are you signed up for the swap?  Mary at Curious Quilter has extended the sign up period through today!  These 2″ charms could be yours!  Here’s the sign up link.

Design Wall Monday – PSQ start!

Design Wall Monday – PSQ start!

I’m sewing 2″ charms!  My portable design wall is perfect to lay out the charms right next to my machine and sew together.  I followed Mary’s sewing and pressing instructions and it went together great!  The trick will be for me to repeat it.

My swap partners are sending me charms!  It’s so fun to receive them in the mail, even if they arrive looking like this!

Not to fear, they were all in there!  So, one block down and many more to go!  Thanks to Mary at The Curious Quilter for organizing the swap.  It has changed my behavior, I was checking the trash at our last retreat looking for salvageable scraps!

Look what’s new to my sewing studio!!!  My dear friend, Candace (Double Nickel Quilt Challenge) has a very talented husband!  He has made me a wonderful, portable design wall.  It will be perfect for my Postage Stamp Quilt block construction.  I’m auditioning 64 – 2 1/2 inch charms here.

The little pfc pipes supporting the wall pop out and allow the board to lay flat for storage.  But, I think I’ll find a place for it to stay up all the time and use it all the time!

Thank you Ken!!!!

Do you have a new gadget or handy tool in your studio?

Just keep stitchin’
