Design Wall Monday – PSQ start!

Design Wall Monday – PSQ start!

I’m sewing 2″ charms!  My portable design wall is perfect to lay out the charms right next to my machine and sew together.  I followed Mary’s sewing and pressing instructions and it went together great!  The trick will be for me to repeat it.

My swap partners are sending me charms!  It’s so fun to receive them in the mail, even if they arrive looking like this!

Not to fear, they were all in there!  So, one block down and many more to go!  Thanks to Mary at The Curious Quilter for organizing the swap.  It has changed my behavior, I was checking the trash at our last retreat looking for salvageable scraps!

Design Wall Monday and charms in the mail today!

Design Wall Monday and charms in the mail today!

Well, I’ve done it again!  I’ve started on another project instead of finishing them!  My camera makes purple look blue, trust me, it’s very purple.  This is version one, 17 x 17 (4″ finished units), plus two borders will finish 81″ square.  I’ve decided to make it smaller, 13 x 15, which will finish 65″ x 73″.  Here’s the layout for that version, which is now on the floor!  The trick will be to pick it up in an organized way so I can take it to my quilt retreat this weekend!

(message to sister:  I hope you like it!)

And I’m mailing charms today!!!  So excited to get some in return!

Big thanks to Mary at The Curious Quilter for organizing the swap.  Time to get sewing postage stamp charm blocks!

I did a PSQ block!

I did a PSQ block!

I followed Mary’s PSQ demonstration and now I have one 64 charm block!  Her demo was perfect but I goofed up a couple of times and had to fix it so my seams would go the right direction.  The charms are 1 1/2″, the block is 8 1/2″.

I’m still cutting up fabric for the Postage Stamp Quilt Swap and Challenge and hope I have enough for whatever the next challenge or swap is!  I’m cutting 1 1/2″, 2″ and 2 1/2″ squares but I plan to swap the 2″.

I’m adding 1 1/2 inch strips to my cutting sizes because I just bought the Pineapple tool and the Trash to Treasure book by Gyleen X. Fitzgerald.  Between squares and strips, I’m going to make scrap quilts using my stash!

I’m in a Chain Gang!

I’m in a Chain Gang!

After my cutting fabric post, I’ve decided to take the plunge and start working on a Postage Stamp Quilt.  The Curious Quilter has a February Mini-Challenge to get you started!  I’m in the Chain Gang group!  What group would you be in?

My ultimate goal is to get my leftover fabric cut into usable sizes:   10″, 5″, 2 1/2″, 2″ and 1 1/2″, and then of course make a quilt with them!

Want to join the fun?!

Cutting fabric…

Cutting fabric…

I’m demonstrating the Twister Tool at quilt guild later this year and I decided to use some of my bright scraps for the 5″ squares.  In the process of cutting those, I’m also cutting the remnants into 2 1/2″, 2″ and 1 1/2″ squares.  Not sure what I’m going to do with those but at least they are in a cut state and not bunched up in my laundry hampers of remnant fabrics!

My first thought is to use the 2 1/2″ or 2″ squares to make a Postage Stamp quilt.  And not that I’d need a tutorial, I still find myself looking for them on other sites.  Here’s a good link  from The Curious Quilter.  I can see that I have a long way to go to have enough squares for a quilt!  And a true Postage Stamp quilt doesn’t have any repeats.  Maybe I’ll have to join a swap to accomplish that!
