Design Wall Monday – Big “O” Quilt

Design Wall Monday – Big “O” Quilt

20 Big O Blocks

My quilting buddy, Candace, always has an idea for my fabric.  I had a fat quarter bundle, some solid fabric and no quilting plan.  Here’s a blog post at selfsewn that we based this quilt on.  Selfsewn called her quilt, “Shoofly”, I’m calling mine, “Big O”. I love how it looks and I hope I can find some time to sew it together!

Shoo Fly

In BlockBase this is #1645.  One of the published names is Shoo Fly.  It’s the same as my “Big O” block with the colors rearranged!

Retreat – Part 2!

Retreat – Part 2!

Dawn's Friendship Star plus

A big thank you to Rainbows and Calico Things Quilt shop for letting me jump in at the last minute and join their second retreat weekend!  I had a great time meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends.

Like last weekend, I worked on my secret projects.  I sewed one quilt top together and finished the blocks for another.  I’m very excited to be this far along!

Show and tell was awesome, again!  I love Dawn’s quilt based on the friendship star block!  The placement of fabric creates a great lattice design.  Jane had a great convergent quilt, (sadly no picture!).  Both of these quilts have been added to my future quilts to make list!

Microwave bowls

I had fun showing how to make microwave fabric bowls.  Here’s my stack of finished bowls, ready to give away!!

Today was a bonus sewing day but everyone had to head home because of an ice storm!  Hopefully, everyone got home save and sound!

Thanks for looking!  🙂 Linda

Design Wall Monday and Retreat Re-Cap

Nine Patch with Solids

This quilt project is inspired by an old quilt that my quilting buddy, Candace, was repairing.  The simple layout of nine patches and solid said, “Make me!”.  I got out my box of 2 1/2″ squares and added some solids.  Some of the solids are a Simply Color Ombre jelly roll which adds a fun dimension to the nine patches.

Thanks to Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop for a great retreat!  I’ve attended her retreats since 2002, so it’s always fun to see familiar faces and meet some new ones!  Here’s one of the show and tell quilts that is my next inspiration!

Deb's Strippy Quilt

I couldn’t get the whole quilt in the picture, but you can see the star pattern created in the middle.  I love it!  I’ve already got fabric for the background, so this will go on the quilts to make list!

During retreat, I started 2 secret projects, (for one of them all the blocks are done!), made 2 microwave fabric bowls, started and finished a Jelly Roll Race Quilt!  Check out my facebook page for some pictures.  And, my brain is just overflowing with ideas for future projects!

Candace is starting a new blog tomorrow about Nancy Cabot, be sure to check it out, too!

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 7

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 7

Block 7

Here’s my block 7 for the BlockBase Sew Along.  This one finishes at 9 inches.  I used Triangles On a Roll to make all the little 1 1/2″ finished half square triangles.  For the flying geese, I used the Eleanor Burns Flying Geese ruler.  Once I figured out the finished size needed to make every element, it was a piece of cake!  I love how it looks!

Do you have a favorite method for making Flying Geese blocks?

Here’s the link to see how others completed their block 7.

I’m off to a quilting retreat sponsored by Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop!!!  If you want to follow along with all the stitchin’ and …more…check out my facebook page!  I’m excited to see how much sewing I can get done in 3 days.  Some of the projects are secret but I’ll share my progress on the others.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Thank you for this giveaway. I was a secretary before longarming full time.  Quilting has given me application for math, but more importantly a greater respect for our country’s history.  Happy New Year!

A big thanks to everyone who participated!  I loved all your comments!

🙂 Linda
