Blogger’s Quilt Festival-Fall 2012

Blogger’s Quilt Festival-Fall 2012

Here’s my entry for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Fall 2012 hosted by Amy’s Creative Side.  I call it my Chevron Picnic Quilt.  I participated in the “In the Bag -Ugly Fabric Quilt Challenge” earlier this year and this is my result!

All the fabric, except some white on white from my stash, is from my swap partner, Patti.  I didn’t have a plan so I cut the fabric into 5″ squares and then made half square triangles using the June Tailor Perfect Half-Square, Quarter Square slotted ruler.  Everyone was perfect!   I’m a gadget person and I highly recommend this one!

After much shuffling, I decided on this layout.

Chevron quilts are fun!  When you rotate them, you have a different quilt!

For this quilt, I played around with different quilting designs in each row.  It’s become the quilting sampler in my studio.

In keeping with the theme, I “acquired” some truly ugly fabric from my stash for the backing!  It’ll be perfect for a picnic – who cares if this gets a little dirty!  I like how the quilting detail pops!

Back in May, I had these blocks on my design wall and now they are a little quilt!  I love how the quilting shows after washing and drying.  Not really sure what I’m going to do with it, but for now it’s on the dining room table.

The spiral and radiating wavy lines look great from the back, too.  This was a fun project to experiment with this quilting design.

I’m linking up at Such a Sew and Sew:  A Stitch in Time.    Check out other October finishes posted.

I’m back to playing with the Paisley Party fabric.  My original plan of randomly sewing my leftovers together wasn’t working out so I made all the units the same size as the 4 patch blocks.  Here’s my latest arrangement.  I like it!   I have a few blocks leftover which I can sew into the back.  It’ll be a little quilt, 36″ x 36″, perfect for someone’s baby!

Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones

It’s a big one!  Trish has created a great original quilt using improvisational block piecing. This is a great use of orphan blocks and scraps.  I have a huge box of batiks scraps…. I think I just added another project to my list?!

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Wool, which makes this king size quilt light, usable and warm!

The background fill is a random, overlapping rectangle meander.  The wool batting accentuates the stitching and creates awesome texture.  The blocks are framed and quilted with a wavy plus swirl design.

Design Wall Monday – 50 Blocks!

Design Wall Monday – 50 Blocks!

I’ve been sewing PSQ blocks!  I knew I was getting pretty close to my required 56, and I was very excited to see that I have 50 blocks done!  I love it!!!!

Later this month, I’ll get new swap partners for more charms, yay!  That will help me get a few more lights for my quilt.  Thanks to Mary, at Curious Quilter for organizing another swap.  There is still time to sign up for the last swap of 2012, here’s the link!
