BlockBase Sew Along – Block 3

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 3

Here’s my 3rd block for the BlockBase Sew Along.  It’s #2448.  A big thank you to Candace for making the paper pieced templates with EQ7 and sharing them with me!!

I’m still using mostly vintage fabrics from the flea market.  Following the coloring in BlockBase, I used 9 fabrics.  I like how it turned out, especially with the red squares.

Design Wall Monday and Freedom Reveal!

Design Wall Monday and Freedom Reveal!

I just spent a fabulous weekend with my sisters and came home with some awesome vintage blocks, fabrics and quilt tops!  We shopped Galena, IL, but these great items came from my sister’s closet.

On my design wall is four of nineteen embroidered blocks.  My sister has a quilt finished by her mother in law with the same blocks.  That quilt is completed with wide solid sashing and is hand quilted.  It’s pretty awesome!  I’m not sure how to finish this.  Nineteen is an odd number for setting so I’ll need to adjust that.

The blocks have blue lines which I believe are for quilting designs.  Does anyone know if they will wash out?

I’d love any fabric suggestions for finishing it.

One thing I know for sure, I will be machine quilting it on my new APQS Freedom!

Last week, I made the decision to trade my 2004 APQS Millennium for a 2012 APQS Freedom with Quilt Glide.  Along with my Bliss Drive System,  I have a sweet new ride!  APQS has great technicians and Jim was here to switch my machines yesterday, and today I’m back in business quilting!!

I’m pretty excited and will offer more reviews as I use it.

According to an antique shop in Galena, the definition of vintage is anything 20 years old!  What do you think of that?

Thanks for looking!

Another Vintage find

Another Vintage find

On a recent shopping adventure, my quilting buddy, Candace  and I found this twin size quilt top.  It’s in great condition, totally hand pieced and sweet!  I might have to find someone to date the fabric in this quilt.  Some of it feels and looks like feed sack fabric.  The framed 9-patch block with the solid block is a great layout, and even though it’s “vintage” it has a very modern feel.

Aren’t these fabrics great!?  Now that I’ve collected several vintage quilt tops, I need to schedule some time to finish them.  This will be a fun quilt to play with the big white areas!

Check out Coloradolady: Vintage Thingie Thursday for other vintage finds!

UPS just brought me a 65 pound bundle of joy!  Stay tuned for the full reveal next week!!!

Have a great weekend!  🙂 Linda

Design Wall Monday

Design Wall Monday

Yes, I know it’s Tuesday!  My internet was out last night!

I’ve sewn the Paisley Party remnants into a cute little quilt.  I still had some pieces leftover so I added them to the sides.  I didn’t have enough to go all the way around.  I’m auditioning the last remnant rectangles and fabric cut from the backing added to the top and bottom, option 1.

Here’s option #1 – added to top and bottom.

Option #2 adds the strips to all four sides.  I think I like the second option best.  I only have a few little pieces left and enough backing fabric to make the binding.  I love using up project remnants!

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 2

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 2

Here’s my second block for the BlockBase Sew Along.  If you have BlockBase, it’s #2741.

Initially, I wasn’t too excited about making this block but my quilting buddy, Candace, saved the day!  She used EQ7 to make paper piecing templates and I was off and running!  Like my first block, I used mostly vintage fabric from recent flea market purchases.  I love how it turned out!
