Christmas Table Topper

Christmas Table Topper

Here’s another Christmas quilt by Marty.  This will be a table topper for Christmas.  I love quilts for tables, so pretty!  Just for fun I’ll put random quilts on our dining room table.  For Marty’s quilt we used Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select batting, it has excellent drape.  I decided to use a very tight and curly pantograph called Oodles of Doodles and I changed from my original plan of red thread to a rayon gold thread by R&A.  It was a small spool from my embroidery stash and I was sweating bullets that it would run out!  But thankfully, it didn’t!  I’ll have to ask Marty to send me a pic of her house all decorated with her Christmas quilts!

Aren’t Christmas quilts fun!  I have to admit that I have a Christmas UFO hanging in my closet, just needs to be quilted!  Maybe next year I’ll quilt mine!  This is one of three Christmas themed quilts Marty brought me for quilting.  It was fun to follow the style of the quilt and quilt it with ribbons and a fun flower in the negative spaces. The thread matches in the negative spaces but I love the great texture it creates when the light hits it.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior Threads OMNI.

How’s your Christmas sewing going?  Have a great stitching weekend!!

It’s a big one!

Marty’s made another really great quilt and it’s a big one!  The quilting design is a freehand E2E called Tear Drop Echo meander.  It seems to move around the quilt which is perfect for the squares and rectangles of this quilt.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior Threads So Fine #50.

I love how the medium brown thread changes from a light to a dark depending on the fabric.

Minkee on Minkee

Tammy’s quilt combines Minkee fabric pieced into the top with a solid Minkee backing.  It’s a great guy quilt!  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Midnight Black, even though I didn’t think light batting would show through the needle holes, this guarantees that.  We decided to quilt it with a design that mimics the animal print.  Having the plush fabric in the quilt top and backing was interesting.  As I stitched through it, I could not see where I had stitched!   Some intersections were too thick and it created some drag but thankfully, it all turned out great!

And of course, you have to look at the back!  That is one cool thing about Minkee fabric, it the back looks awesome!

What do yo think about using plush fabric for the backing or in the quilt top?  Any interesting challenges or experiences?
