It’s a big one!

It’s a big one!

Marty’s made another really great quilt and it’s a big one!  The quilting design is a freehand E2E called Tear Drop Echo meander.  It seems to move around the quilt which is perfect for the squares and rectangles of this quilt.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior Threads So Fine #50.

I love how the medium brown thread changes from a light to a dark depending on the fabric.

Minkee on Minkee

Minkee on Minkee

Tammy’s quilt combines Minkee fabric pieced into the top with a solid Minkee backing.  It’s a great guy quilt!  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Midnight Black, even though I didn’t think light batting would show through the needle holes, this guarantees that.  We decided to quilt it with a design that mimics the animal print.  Having the plush fabric in the quilt top and backing was interesting.  As I stitched through it, I could not see where I had stitched!   Some intersections were too thick and it created some drag but thankfully, it all turned out great!

And of course, you have to look at the back!  That is one cool thing about Minkee fabric, it the back looks awesome!

What do yo think about using plush fabric for the backing or in the quilt top?  Any interesting challenges or experiences?

Linda Taylor’s Feather Meander Pantograph

Linda Taylor’s Feather Meander Pantograph

Wendy’s Fat Quarter Shuffle quilt is perfect for a very pretty pantograph by Linda Taylor called Feather Meander.  It’s has lots of elements so the repeat of the pantograph is larger.

It doesn’t show up in this close up, but the thread is a brown to pink variegated, really compliments the quilt!

Candace of Double Nickel Quilt Challenge made two disappearing 9 patch quilts with different fabrics, for the first quilt I used the blocks to define the quilting design.  See that post here. Hard to believe that it’s the same quilt!  For this quilt we wanted to add fun overall texture.  I used bright orange thread and quilted a square loops design.

It’s a fun and fast quilting design that will work with many different quilt tops.  Give it a try!

Celia’s Block Party quilt

Celia’s Block Party quilt

When Celia brought me this quilt, I thought it looked familiar!  Her friend Janann made the same quilt without borders which I had quilted earlier this year.  Celia let me have free reign with this quilt and I created a design using the square in square elements of the set.  And to complete the look, I used square feathers in the block design and the border braid design.  The wool batting gives the quilt lots of movement and texture.

The back is awesome, too!

Stay tuned for another Block Party, Janann just brought me another one today!
