Candy of The Double Nickel Quilt Challenge wanted simple all over quilting for this quilt. Masculine motif, no leaves, hearts or feathers. I really wanted to play off all the squares and rectangles so I started drawing connecting patterns that would go edge to edge (E2E) and on paper they looked like sine waves.

Anabel gets her Tummy Time quilt!
Peacock Feather Meander
Trust me it’s quilted! While the quilting doesn’t show in this picture, a peacock feather meander is a perfect overall pattern for this quilt. It’s a freehand design that allows you choose your density. The thread is Superior Threads So Fine #50 which blends great with this fabric. The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend. Here’s the quilting detail, click pictures to enlarge.
Is this one of your regular quilting designs? If not, try it on your next project, either as an E2E or background fill. I’d love to see your pictures, send me a link to your blog or pictures!
Freehand Shell Meander and Black Fabric
It’s important to think about all parts of your quilt when selecting fabrics for your quilt. For this quilt, the top is a black, red and white and the backing fabric is solid black. Normally with solid black backing fabric I would use Quilter’s Dream Midnight black but the quilt top had white fabric which the black batting would shadow through. So, we used Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select natural, which can peak through the needle holes. Luckily, it only pokes through a couple of places and after it’s washed should show even less. I love the red thread on the black making this a reversible quilt! The thread is Superior Threads So Fine #50.
Mary’s Rebel Roses quilt – check!
Another check for my Quilting Bucket List! I’m late giving Mary her birthday present but better late than never, right?! My quilt guild had a show this year so I delayed giving it to Mary so it could be on display. Here’s the proof!
And yes, that’s Drew and Abby’s wedding quilt on the right, they had to wait for their quilt, too! Mary’s quilt is my original design using a design wall to place the blocks. Very simple, really shows off the fabrics. Here’s a couple detail pictures of the quilting.
The Quilter’s Dream Orient batting drapes well and has that wonderful antique look after washing. It’s really evident from the back.
Now, on to the next one! Thanks for visiting!
