Mary’s Glacier Star

Mary’s Glacier Star

Glacier Star detailPictures are a best way to describe this quilt!  Glacier Star is a Judy Niemeyer quilt that is an insane sewing project that only crazy people tackle!  And this week I’ll be quilting another!Glacier Star with extra bordersMary added the extra borders to her Glacier Star, doubly insane!  Lots and lots of tiny pieces!Glacier Star lap sizeYou could make this smaller version of the Glacier Star instead of adding the additional sections, like Mary did.back detail Glacier StarThe back looks pretty awesome, too!  I was honored that Mary trusted me with her big project.  More pictures are available here.

Thanks for looking and stay tuned for the next Glacier Star!

Cross Stitch Quilt

Cross Stitch Quilt

Earlier this year I was honored to work on a group project quilt.  Paul likes to cross stitch and his sister in law, Mary, likes to quilt.  They teamed up to make this quilt. This quilt is fun to see the before and after quilting.  I redefined the blocks with the quilting, obscuring the actual block size.  I love the effect!Except for some straight line ruler work in the cross stitch blocks, all the stitching is freehand!

So, maybe this will motivate me to make a quilt with these vintage cross stitch blocks!  I’m undecided on the way to finish them.

The printed quilting lines make a cool pattern when set together, but it seems like it needs some sashing.  I have 19 of these blocks, yes an odd number!  If you have any ideas, please comment on my Facebook page!

Thanks!  Here’s to a healthy and happy 2017!

Janann’s Amazon Star

Janann’s Amazon Star

Amazon StarJanann’s Amazon Star quilt is so large, I have no place to hang it, but you get the idea.Amazon Star 2I love the pink fabric creating a strong circular pattern.Amazon Star 6I will admit, that it took me three weeks to finish this!  The hardest part was deciding what to do in each element but after that, it was stitch, stitch, stitch!!Amazon Star 4If you’re crazy to make this quilt, it’s one of Judy Niemeyer’s patterns.

Thanks for looking and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

PSQ2 – Signed, Sealed and Delivered!!

PSQ2 – Signed, Sealed and Delivered!!

Wrapped and readyYesterday, my hubby’s cousin received a belated birthday/Christmas present from me via UPS!  My second Postage Stamp Quilt – Dancing Nines, 1,728 Charms!  Jeannine was on my Bucket List of quilts to make and I was excited to give it to her.  And coincidentally,  she’s having surgery this week so it’s also a long distance hug from us.Dancing Nines - PSQ2I love scrap quilts and Quiltville is a great source for them!  This quilt is based on Bonnie Hunter’s free pattern called Dancing Nines.  I chose to use my collection of postage stamp 2″ charms from The Curious Quilter swaps and I didn’t add the borders.  Dancing Nines quilting detailI loved quilting this with freehand orange peel in the nine patches and big pebbles in the sashing.

I’m ready to start my third PSQ if I can decide on the next pattern!

As 2014 comes to an end,  I’m thankful to those who have partnered with me to finish their projects and looking forward the many I have waiting for me to start in 2015!
