SpinSanity by Celia

SpinSanity by Celia

Isn’t this a fun quilt?!  The pattern is Spinsanity, but Celia has changed it from the original.  Do you do make changes to patterns?

I was very excited to learn that Celia will be adding a piping element next to the binding.  It will be the same fabric as the narrow border.  I hope I get to see it after it’s finished.

For the quilting, we decided to do separate border designs, background fill in the dark areas and create a floral element for the spinning block centers.  I changed the thread color from Rainbows in the border and blocks to So Fine 50 in the narrow border and OMNI in the dark background.

The wool batting shows off the quilting with the right light.  Enjoy the pictures, I love how this quilt turned out!

I love the unexpected spinning flower in the blocks!

I love it when you turn the quilt to the back and it looks awesome!  I was a little worried about matching the bobbin thread to the dark OMNI thread for the background fill but it looks great on the back.

How many times did I say “love”?!

Thanks for looking and just keep “stitchin” !

Marty’s Big Camping Quilt

Marty’s Big Camping Quilt

I’ve been busy quilting customer quilts and not posting them!  So here’s Marty’s Big Camping quilt.  It’s much bigger than my hanging space!  Even though it’s a big one, I was able to turn the quilt for stitching the borders, but just barely.  The borders have separate designs and the center is quilted with two different motifs to change the texture of the quilt along the camping blocks.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend and the thread is Superior Threads So Fine 50.  I used a color that matched so well that I couldn’t see it sometimes!

And the back is always fun to look at!  For the narrow green border I switched to a dark green thread in the needle and bobbin.

Marty did another big quilt which I will feature in the next post!

Thanks for looking and just keep stitchin’ !

Customer Quilts Cont..

Customer Quilts Cont..

Just catching up on posting customer quilts.

Isn’t this a pretty quilt?! My photograph doesn’t do it justice.

Each border has it’s own freehand design and the center has an overall loop and leaf pattern.

Here’s a detail of the back showing the quilting detail.

Wendy made this quilt before and had to remind me of that!  Here’s the link to that post.  I love how changing the colors can make each quilt so different.

We decided to use Stars and Loops pantograph and red thread.  I love the red thread on the blue backing fabric.

Thanks for looking!

Three Sampler Quilts finished!

Three Sampler Quilts finished!

I’ve just completed  3 different sampler quilts for Christmas delivery.  All of them are larger than my hanging space, so they drape onto the floor!

For Jan’s 2 samplers, she wanted very simple quilting so they both have a meander.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton.

We based the thread color choice on the fabric used in the center, where the meander is slightly smaller to go around the applique.  The thread is OMNI by Superior.  The color is a soft gold, which for many quilts is like a neutral.  I’ve used it on several quilts.

For the pink and brown sampler, we selected Superior Threads Choco Cherry Lava.  The quilt photograph doesn’t show the color change as well, but it’s perfect for this quilt!  This is a good one to add to your thread collection.

For Mary’s star sampler, we decided on custom quilting with different designs for each block, separate border designs and a featured design in the center!  This one took some planning, but once I got started it just seemed to take on a life of it’s own!  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly select and the thread is Superior So Fine #50.  I took a lot of pictures so here’s a link to the front and back galleries.

Celia’s Mystery Quilt

Celia’s Mystery Quilt

Celia and Janann made Debbie Caffrey’s mystery quilt, Rain & Fire.  Janann added extra borders to her quilt and you can see that here, Blue and Yellow #3.  For Celia’s quilt, I ordered a dark purple OMNI thread by Superior to match the fabric and quilted feathers in the border.  The center is a freehand peacock feather design with OMNI natural white.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend.  The matching thread creates  texture and movement without adding another color element and is perfect for this quilt.

The bobbin matches the dark purple which contrasts with the light backing fabric but that guarantees a perfect looking stitch from the front.  Because it matched so well on top, it was hard to see, so I’d stop and crawl under my longarm to look at it!

My one year anniversary for blogging is approaching!  I’m very thankful to my friend Candace of The Double Nickel Quilt Challenge for encouraging me to start blogging and my son, Drew, for helping with the website set up and maintenance.  He’s been very patient with me!  Having a photo diary of my quilting has been fun and helped me keep  a better record of each quilt, whether it’s mine or a customer’s.  I will be having my first giveaway on my blog over Thanksgiving weekend.  So check back for my Thanksgiving Giveaway post next week to see what you can win!

Thanks for looking and just keep stitching!
