Mountains Wall Hanging

Mountains Wall Hanging

Nancy has made a wonderful wall hanging!  She let me have full reign with this one!  Her main request was that the thread matched the fabric and I said, “I can do that!”  I knew there was a reason that I “collected” thread.  Here’s a big endorsement of Superior Threads’ So Fine #50, lots of colors and great for blending and thread play.  I used 11 different threads!

I just keep stacking them up on the ledge behind my longarm.  I usually match top and bobbin thread so the back of this quilt is just as interesting as the front!

As I quilted this, my focus was to add an organic detail and movement.  Some elements are not visible from the front without direct lighting and that’s okay, it’s adds lots of great texture.  I changed direction to contrast the neighboring element.

Nancy wanted a flat appearance so we used Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select batting.  Even with fairly dense quilting, it lays flat.

I love the tree detail!

Blue and Yellow #3

Blue and Yellow #3

Here’s Janann’s third blue, yellow and white quilt, a mystery quilt.  Her friend Celia did the same quilt and I’m in the process of quilting that right now.  Celia’s quilt stops at the yellow, Janann added the two borders to make the quilt a queen size.  As you can see, it’s bigger than my hanging space!

For the scrappy blues we decided on a bead border and a small meander in the darker blue.  For the inside borders I drafted a swirly nouveau feather design to fill the wide white to yellow area.

Just click on the pictures for a larger view.

The center of the quilt is a tear drop echo meander.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly select and the thread is Superior OMNI.

French Roses Plus!

French Roses Plus!

I was very excited to quilt Linzee’s adaption of the French Roses quilt.  It’s great how she combined fabrics, added sashings and cornerstones.  Look closely at the border,(click the picture for a larger view) the fabrics are randomly pieced adding the the scrappy feel.

I decided to add a floral spoke through the center to give a stamen feel to the flower.  I’m excited to see the quilt after it’s washed and dried.  The petal look should be enhanced.

The back shows the background meander around the flower motif.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select.  The thread is A & E Perma-Core and Superior So Fine #50.

Blue and Yellow Quilt #2

Blue and Yellow Quilt #2

As promised here’s another blue, yellow and white quilt by Janann.  Look familiar?  It’s the same quilt with different borders as this one by Celia.  Janann has also made another version, you can see it here.

I really like how Janann has controlled the yellow and white fabric placement in the blocks.  Therefore, I decided not to quilt the yellow/white corners and four patches.  Adds a nice dimension to the quilt.

The back is nicely pieced and shows the quilting, too!  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly Select and the thread is Superior So Fine #50.

Thanks for looking!  I’ll post the third quilt soon!

Blue and Yellow Wall Hanging – #1

Blue and Yellow Wall Hanging – #1

Janann has made three awesome blue, yellow and white themed quilts.  Here’s the first one, a wall hanging.  Every element has it’s own quilting design.  The thread is Superior So Fine #50 and the batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend.

The background fill adds great texture in the white areas.

The thread is white in the yellow areas but it reads yellow!

Thanks for looking!  I’ll post the others soon!
