Happy Wedding, Stephanie and Christopher!!

Happy Wedding, Stephanie and Christopher!!

labeled-and-ready

Last month we celebrated the marriage of our daughter, Stephanie to Christopher!  It was a magical night and couldn’t have been more perfect for two very special people.  I’m a quilter but Stephanie is a photographer!  Check out her amazing work here!

The quilt I chose for Stephanie and Christopher is a quilt I made a few years ago.  It’s the quilt she asked to inherit but I didn’t want to wait that long to give it to her!  It’s also one of my bucket list quilt and one of my favorites.  It’s a bucket list quit because of the tumbler shape and the uneven binding. And it’s a one of a kind because I’ll never do that again!Tumbler edges

This quilt has a fun story, too.  I fell in love with the Amy Butler fabric and one of her reversible apron patterns, so I bought what I needed to make it.  Really?  I soon realized it would be a very expensive apron, (that probably wouldn’t get finished)!!  That’s when I switched gears and my “Apron Quilt” was designed and made.Apron turned tumbler quilt

Even though I gave away one of my most favorite quilts, it’s still in the family and I’ll be able to visit it!  It’s almost like giving away one of your children!

Have you ever switched gears and made something totally different then you planned?  If you care to comment, leave it on my Facebook page!

I have been busy with customer quilts and hope to post a bunch of pictures at the end of the year!

Thanks!

Linda 🙂

Hunter Star One, Two, Three

Hunter Star One, Two, Three

Corner feathers detailHunter Star One is a large quilt by Janann using her favorite blocks and wool batting.  The big borders gave me lots of room for freehand stylized feathers with traveling circles.

Janann's Hunter Star OneIsn’t this a great layout?!  The first picture shows the color better, if spring returns I’ll be able to take pictures outside!  I decided to use a simple freehand medallion design with an outline of the 8 point star.

Star detail wool battingWool batting lets the design pop out.  For a large quilt, it’s very light in weight, too.

Hunter Star TwoHunter Star Two is the reject blocks that didn’t make it into One!  Janann set the blocks in a secondary square pattern unlike an alternating light dark in One.  Scroll back up and look at the difference.

Two block detailThe medallion quilting is similar but looks totally different because of the setting of the blocks.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly select which quilts very flat like cotton.  Which setting do you prefer?  I like Two!

Three pillow topsAnd here is Hunter Star Three!  Quilted pillow tops!  Janann has lots of finishing to do here!

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Do you recognize this block?  Yes, it’s called Iowa Star.  Janann designed an awesome fall wall hanging featuring Iowa Star blocks.

overlapping designs

The quilting design overlaps the blocks creating a secondary pattern.  This quilt was so much fun to stitch and watch the designs come together.

fun feather designs

I love how it looks!

back quilting detail

The pieced back has a lighter color which shows of the quilting design.  I love it!

Yes, I’m going to Houston Quilt Festival but before that I’ll be going to the AQS in Des Moines!  Will you be there?

Thanks!   Linda 🙂

Tammy’s Courthouse Steps with Back and Forth Feathers

Tammy’s Courthouse Steps with Back and Forth Feathers

Tammy's Courthouse Steps I knew exactly what I wanted to quilt on Tammy’s Courthouse Steps quilt, Back and Forth Feathers!  I usually use this design on quilts with an “on point” design, click here for an example.

Even though this quilt is straight set, the courthouse step design creates it’s own on point design.

Back and Forth Feathers

quilting back viewThe back reveals the on point quilting design better than the front!

feather detailA little pinwheel is created where the back and forth feathers come together.  I love secondary patterns and this quilt has many.

feather detail backBack and forth feathers adds great quilting detail and texture, yet, it’s still soft and cuddly!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

New York Beauty Wall Hanging

New York Beauty Wall Hanging

New York Beauty Wall HangingAnn has created an awesome wall hanging featuring New York Beauty blocks.  I had fun developing original quilting designs for this project.  It will hang in an old Italian style house so I used Italian tile designs for my influence.  Thanks to Pinterest, they were easy to find!Corner detailThe batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend and Dream Puff layered together.  Double batting gives lots of texture and allows the quilting detail to pop.

The thread is Superior Threads So Fine 50 in a color that matches the fabrics.

The back is a tea dyed muslin which shows off the quilting detail, too!

Here’s the link to my Pinterest board for Italian Design ideas.  How do you think I did?  Thanks for looking!  Linda 🙂
