A New Book Giveaway!

A New Book Giveaway!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER!

The publishers of Jennifer Chiaverini new novel, Sonoma Rose, asked if I would review her yet to be released novel and host a giveaway!  Of course I said yes!  Not only do I love to read, I love hosting giveaways on my blog!

Here’s a blurb from the publishers:

Jennifer has always been praised for her ability to write historical and present-day fiction with equal skill. While her last novel was set in modern times, Sonoma Rose tells the story of a young mother’s heroic journey in Prohibition-era America.

Rosa Diaz Barclay is touched by the criminality surrounding Prohibition when she discovers that her husband, John, has given over the duties of their Southern California rye farm in favor of bootlegging. Fearing the safety of her four children, Rosa flees, carrying only a case of John’s ill-begotten cash and her mother’s two quilts. Lars Jorgensen, her true love and the father of two of her children, aids in her escape, and together the six travel north to San Francisco. Under assumed names, they are hired to work at a Sonoma vineyard, where Rosa creates a personal and professional identity that she would never have dared imagine at the opening of her tale, and one that brings great honor-and beauty-to all who surround her.

Jordy’s Sock Monkey quilt

Jordy’s Sock Monkey quilt

Sunday was Jordy’s baptism.  On Thursday, I decided he needed a little quilt!  Not too late to make one right?  Especially when it’s 2 flannel rectangles and machine stitched binding.  I quilted it on the longarm using a small meander and Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton batting.  Because both pieces were the same size I didn’t clamp it but did my one handed stitching again!  This was a smaller meander so I did have to make sure that my fingers were out of the way!

It’s hard to photograph, but I love how it got all soft and wrinkly after washing and drying.

And you may notice that I tucked the original Red Heel socks with the sock monkey instructions in the fold of the quilt.  Well, Jordy’s mom gave those right back to me!

I made one for my daughter years ago and if I could have found it, I would have given it to him!  So now, I guess I’ll have to make another one.

We’ve added a new blog “follow” feature.  Sign up is easy!  Thanks to my son, Drew, for the tech support!

Customer Quilts Cont..

Customer Quilts Cont..

Just catching up on posting customer quilts.

Isn’t this a pretty quilt?! My photograph doesn’t do it justice.

Each border has it’s own freehand design and the center has an overall loop and leaf pattern.

Here’s a detail of the back showing the quilting detail.

Wendy made this quilt before and had to remind me of that!  Here’s the link to that post.  I love how changing the colors can make each quilt so different.

We decided to use Stars and Loops pantograph and red thread.  I love the red thread on the blue backing fabric.

Thanks for looking!

Basic Meander

Basic Meander

I’m a little behind on posting customer quilts so here’s a couple that I’ve delivered recently.

Mack’s “quilt” is fleece and flannel, no batting.  To make it as big as possible, I loaded the fleece to the leaders and floated the flannel on the top even though the flannel is the backing.  Because both fabrics were about the same size, I did not clamp or baste the sides of the top, I just held on to the edges!  With the Bliss on my APQS Millennium I can operate my machine one handed!   It did help that the quilting design was a big meander!

I used a Superior Thread that matched perfectly with the fleece and contrasted the flannel “top”, which really helped me see where I was stitching!

Here’s Dianne’s quilt with another meander, but smaller.  This customer brought puffy batting which really makes the quilting stand out and highlights the black thread.

I also just finished a little project for myself using a little meander on flannel fabrics with 100% cotton batting.  I machine washed and dried it to increase the “wrinkles”!  It is so cute but I can’t post it yet, it’s a surprise!

I’m in a Chain Gang!

I’m in a Chain Gang!

After my cutting fabric post, I’ve decided to take the plunge and start working on a Postage Stamp Quilt.  The Curious Quilter has a February Mini-Challenge to get you started!  I’m in the Chain Gang group!  What group would you be in?

My ultimate goal is to get my leftover fabric cut into usable sizes:   10″, 5″, 2 1/2″, 2″ and 1 1/2″, and then of course make a quilt with them!

Want to join the fun?!

Just keep stitchin’
