Another Quilt Wrangling!

Another Quilt Wrangling!

Here’s another one of the big quilts I wrangled!  I should have taken a picture of it loaded on the longarm, it filled the space! Emily wanted an E2E and gave me free reign to pick it.  I had fun combining a couple of freehand designs to compliment the fabric in the big blocks.  So, I don’t really have a name but how about  Nouveau feathers with stylized shell meander.

The solid brown fabric shows off the stitching, too.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior OMNI in the needle and So Fine 50 in the bobbin.

I did a PSQ block!

I did a PSQ block!

I followed Mary’s PSQ demonstration and now I have one 64 charm block!  Her demo was perfect but I goofed up a couple of times and had to fix it so my seams would go the right direction.  The charms are 1 1/2″, the block is 8 1/2″.

I’m still cutting up fabric for the Postage Stamp Quilt Swap and Challenge and hope I have enough for whatever the next challenge or swap is!  I’m cutting 1 1/2″, 2″ and 2 1/2″ squares but I plan to swap the 2″.

I’m adding 1 1/2 inch strips to my cutting sizes because I just bought the Pineapple tool and the Trash to Treasure book by Gyleen X. Fitzgerald.  Between squares and strips, I’m going to make scrap quilts using my stash!

Quilt Wrangling!

Quilt Wrangling!

I’ve been wrangling some big quilts lately and I still have a few more to go!  Here’s a fairly large quilt by Connie.  It’s bigger than my hanging space!

We decided to quilt it with a overall freehand shell meander, maybe you would call it peacock  feathers or 1, 2, 3.  Do you have a name for this quilting design?

The thread is Superior OMNI and the batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select.

Bonus!  The back is pieced!  The thread matches so well, it’s hard to see but it would make a nice reversible quilt.

Our quilt guild had a trunk show this week and the presenters pieced most of their backs from the leftover project fabrics.  Now, that’s one way not to have lots of fabric scraps!  What do you prefer?

Another Sock Monkey Quilt!

Another Sock Monkey Quilt!

Has Sock Monkey made a revival?  I recently made a Sock Monkey baby quilt and then the next week I pulled out my next quilt for LAQ and it’s another cute Sock Monkey quilt!

We decided to do a little meander in a neutral cream thread.

Aren’t those little monkeys cute?!

After it’s washed it will be all wrinkled and cuddly, perfect for any little girl!

The back view really shows the quilting detail, too.

Have you made a sock monkey quilt?

DNQC – Crosswise quilt

DNQC – Crosswise quilt

I’m getting to the end of Candace’s quilts for her Double Nickel Quilt Challenge year, I think after this one, Crosswise, I only have one left!  She’s still making quilts like crazy (check here for the latest) and I’m honored and humbled that she has me quilt them. However, I am still encouraging her to get a longarm!

For a little quilt, we spent more time trying to decide how to quilt it!  When Candace said she wanted to keep this quilt at home for her grandkids to cuddle under, I knew what to do!  The quilt is small, 38″ x 50″, and as much as I wanted to do some dense quilting in the white areas, the end result would not be a cuddler!

Here are the stats:  Double Bud pantograph by Keryn Emmerson,  Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and Superior Threads Bright White OMNI.

The “unquilted” areas create a nice wavy movement that compliments the blocks.  The back view shows the pattern repeat of the pantograph.   And this hardly ever happens, the pattern repeat of the pantograph fit the quilt perfectly!

The end result is a soft, cute and cuddly quilt!
