Goodbye to 2015!

This year was fast paced and many quilts were stitched but not blogged! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen some pics there. The year ended with 66 customer quilts, 10 charity quilts and 7 “my quilts” to go under the needle of my Freedom longarm. My all time grand total is 798 and quilt number 799 is loaded and in works and will be completed in 2016!Baby Audrey’s quilt is pretty special to me, our newest granddaughter.Candace’s Jelly Bean Flowers quilt is a favorite. This was featured in her booth at AQS Des Moines. Want to make one? Visit her quilt shop online to get the pattern or send her a message to request a kit with all the fabrics to make the quilt top.Janann’s Amazon Star was my longest quilting adventure of the year!!Celia’s transparency quilt, Swatch was fun to quilt different designs in each section. My Google+ page has lots of pictures of this quilt!

Janann’s Amazon Star

Janann’s Amazon Star quilt is so large, I have no place to hang it, but you get the idea.I love the pink fabric creating a strong circular pattern.I will admit, that it took me three weeks to finish this! The hardest part was deciding what to do in each element but after that, it was stitch, stitch, stitch!!If you’re crazy to make this quilt, it’s one of Judy Niemeyer’s patterns.

Skylar’s Tummy Time Quilt!

We’ve added another baby to our ever growing family! My grand niece, Skylar Jean was born while I was working the AQS in Des Moines, September 29. She could have been my birthday buddy, my birthday is September 28! I had the quilt top done before her birth but I didn’t quilt it because we didn’t know the sex of the baby! I was hoping for a girl (she has two brothers) so I could use some cute floral flannel for the back.

Upon returning home from Des Moines, I got Skylar’s Tummy Time quilt finished, complete with her name, birth date and love, Aunt Linda, stitched into the quilt. I was able to deliver it to her on her one week birthday!

Isn’t she adorable!? If you look closely, you can see where I stitched out her name.

I love making the Rectangle Strings quilt for Tummy Time quilts! They become little “I Spy” strips of novelties and color. Want to make your own? Here’s a link to MaryQuilts where you can find the pattern. I choose to make a 6 x 6 setting with no borders so the quilt measures about 36″ x 54″ and I can use width of fabric for the backing!

A Quilt for Audrey Ruth!

One thing I love about making quilts, is that every quilt has it’s own story! The wedding favors for my son’s wedding in 2011 used 5″ squares of Amy Butler fabric. I went to a quilting retreat 2 weeks after their wedding and started making a baby quilt for them using the leftover fabric!After adding more Amy Butler fabric for the borders and backing, their baby quilt was born!Yes, I made their baby quilt years before baby! However, last month we hosted a baby shower where I was able to present my beautiful daughter in law the “Baby Wedding Quilt”!

None too soon, because on September 1, we met our newest granddaughter, Audrey Ruth!Yes, this is not my usual Tummy Time quilt, she’ll be able to use this for a long time!She’s pretty perfect and I look forward to making more quilts for her and maybe future siblings!!

Purple Puzzle Quilt for Alexis

My grand niece, Alexis, will be a sophomore in college so I’m only one year late for this high school graduation quilt! I think she was surprised!Once I knew purple was her favorite color, I started collecting and trading purple fat quarters and then designed a simple puzzle pattern using EQ7.Using five different purple threads, I quilted a simple uneven grid. The different threads don’t show as much as I thought they would!
