A Quilt for Audrey Ruth!

A Quilt for Audrey Ruth!

wedding squares

One thing I love about making quilts, is that every quilt has it’s own story!  The wedding favors for my son’s wedding in 2011 used 5″ squares of Amy Butler fabric.  I went to a quilting retreat 2 weeks after their wedding and started making a baby quilt for them using the leftover fabric!quilt hanging over fenceAfter adding more Amy Butler fabric for the borders and backing, their baby quilt was born!quilt hanging on treeYes, I made their baby quilt years before baby!  However, last month we hosted a baby shower where I was able to present my beautiful daughter in law the “Baby Wedding Quilt”!

None too soon, because on September 1, we met our newest granddaughter, Audrey Ruth!Baby Audrey on her quiltYes, this is not my usual Tummy Time quilt, she’ll be able to use this for a long time!Audrey close upShe’s pretty perfect and I look forward to making more quilts for her and maybe future siblings!!

Thanks!!  Linda 🙂

First Tummy Time Quilt of 2015!

First Tummy Time Quilt of 2015!

Mom to be!Yes, those string blocks are from my January retreat sewing!  How about that for getting a quilt done in time for the baby shower?!  Thirty six string blocks make a great Tummy Time quilt.  The pattern is a free download from MaryQuilts.com, called Rectangle Strings.  If you wanted to make a bigger quilt, add borders.  I leave off the borders so the quilt finishes at width of fabric.Baby Hartman pink string quiltThe quilting is a double meander scrunched together, which looks like ruffles.  This quilting design will be another Quilt Easy video when I find another quilt to do it on!stitched labelSince the baby’s name hasn’t been revealed, the stitched label is “Baby Girl”!  I’m usually only making quilts for my big family but this one is for a very special neighbor.  And just to be safe, I’ve got more baby quilts in the works!

I sure hope spring follows Spring Ahead today!  I’m ready for winter to be over!

Four Babies and a Wedding!

Four Babies and a Wedding!

great girl colorsBaby #4, Aria Lennon, was born today!!  She’s so sweet and cuddly, we had to make a trip to the hospital to see her.

Aria LennonI had so much fun making Aria’s Tummy Time quilt with 2 fat quarter bundles of fairy princess fabrics!

Most of my baby quilts are super scrappy but this one is coordinated and designed for the fabric.  My quilting buddy, Candace, helped design the layout, color placement and border design.

wrapped and readyI washed and dried the quilt to fluff up the applique edges and soften the quilt.  Here it is all wrapped and ready with a Lil’ Lovee attached.

Now that the babies are done for the year, the next big event is a wedding!!!  Stay tuned for that reveal!!

Until then, I’m linking up with Such a Sew and Sew:  A Stitch In Time for another August finish!  Check out other August finishes here.

Baby Reagan’s quilt

Baby Reagan’s quilt

Reagan's baby quilt by Grandma Lisa

Congrats to Grandma Lisa!  Here’s the baby quilt she made for her granddaughter, Reagan, born August 8!

The fabric is soft flannel, perfect for a baby to cuddle and have tummy time.

Magnifico Thread

What I really liked about this quilt was that Lisa let me use Superior Threads Magnifico, Tangerine Flash!  The thread is a great fluorescent orange, which does not photograph well, but trust me, it’s bright!

The quilting design is my favorite fun, freehand edge to edge, Swirl and Curl.  It always looks great!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Three Down, One to Go!

Three Down, One to Go!

Wrapped and readyTime to reveal the sneak peak quilt!  Landon Ryan was born last night!  Of course, we headed to the hospital to hold him and give him his Tummy Time quilt and Lil’ Lovee.

Landon Ryan - one day

Landon Ryan's Tummy Time quiltHe is so adorable and even though I guessed girl, we couldn’t be happier for our niece and her hubby!

I love string quilts and scrappy quilts, therefore, this is one of my favorites!  In fact, I’ve already started another one.  With my big extended family, I’m sure I’ll need it soon!

Minkee back and quilting detailThis is the first time I’ve used Minkee for the backing fabric on a Tummy Time quilt.  I like it!  It’s super soft and shows off the quilting design.

Landon’s big brother is Jordy, who has a few of my quilted projects!  Here’s Jordy with his Tummy Time quilt.

I’m linking with Such a Sew and Sew:  A Stitch in Time for an August finish.  Check out other finishes here.  And a big thank you to Mr. Bug for drawing me to win last month!  🙂 Linda
