Another Quilt Wrangling!

Another Quilt Wrangling!

Here’s another one of the big quilts I wrangled!  I should have taken a picture of it loaded on the longarm, it filled the space! Emily wanted an E2E and gave me free reign to pick it.  I had fun combining a couple of freehand designs to compliment the fabric in the big blocks.  So, I don’t really have a name but how about  Nouveau feathers with stylized shell meander.

The solid brown fabric shows off the stitching, too.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select and the thread is Superior OMNI in the needle and So Fine 50 in the bobbin.

Quilt Wrangling!

Quilt Wrangling!

I’ve been wrangling some big quilts lately and I still have a few more to go!  Here’s a fairly large quilt by Connie.  It’s bigger than my hanging space!

We decided to quilt it with a overall freehand shell meander, maybe you would call it peacock  feathers or 1, 2, 3.  Do you have a name for this quilting design?

The thread is Superior OMNI and the batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select.

Bonus!  The back is pieced!  The thread matches so well, it’s hard to see but it would make a nice reversible quilt.

Our quilt guild had a trunk show this week and the presenters pieced most of their backs from the leftover project fabrics.  Now, that’s one way not to have lots of fabric scraps!  What do you prefer?

Roll of Nickels

Crosses and Dots

Here’s two more completed quilts for The Double Nickel Quilt Challenge.  The first Roll of Nickels quilt is here.  We decided to do a slightly different quilting design for the second one, Overlapping Squares Meander.  It adds great texture to the homespun fabric while staying soft and cuddly after washing.

Crosses and Dots is another E2E combining Freehand Spirals with an occasional flower.

The back is white, too!

I love the white on white stitching but what if it I had used a pale yellow or blue thread?  That could have been fun!

Can you believe we’re to the end of January?  Hope you’ve had a great start to 2012!  We’ve had a pretty exciting month, highlighted by sending our daughter to England to study abroad, going to a 3 day quilting retreat and visiting our son in Orlando.  And thankfully, I was able to finish 8 customer quilts!  I still have some Loose Ends to work on but maybe I’ll finish one next month!

Purple Purple Quilt

Purple Purple Quilt

Isn’t this a great quilt for someone who loves purple? The quilting thread is purple, too! It’s quilted with a freehand quilting design I call Nouveau Feather meander.  This design is great for a beginning LA quilter and can be sized up or down to achieve the stitch density that you want.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select.

E2E using the blocks = Sine Waves

E2E using the blocks = Sine Waves

Candy of The Double Nickel Quilt Challenge wanted simple all over quilting for this quilt. Masculine motif, no leaves, hearts or feathers.  I really wanted to play off all the squares and rectangles so I started drawing connecting patterns that would go edge to edge (E2E) and on paper they looked like sine waves.
