Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones

It’s a big one!  Trish has created a great original quilt using improvisational block piecing. This is a great use of orphan blocks and scraps.  I have a huge box of batiks scraps…. I think I just added another project to my list?!

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Wool, which makes this king size quilt light, usable and warm!

The background fill is a random, overlapping rectangle meander.  The wool batting accentuates the stitching and creates awesome texture.  The blocks are framed and quilted with a wavy plus swirl design.

One Quilt, Two Quilt

One Quilt, Two Quilt

Last January, I was at a Rainbows and Calico Things quilting retreat and Mary and Beverly were working on this quilt called Cozy Cabin.

I was excited to quilt both of them!

For Beverly’s quilt, we decided on meandering feathers throughout the quilt except in the small blue squares.

Mary decided to add the pieced border to her Cozy Cabin.  Pretty awesome!

For this quilt we decided on an E2E Peacock Feathers meander.

I love the light blue thread!  It looks dark on the light fabric and light on dark fabric!

Meandering Feathers Rock!

Meandering Feathers Rock!

Marilyn’s quilt was perfect for freehand feather meandering.  She wanted something more than a basic meandering but not as much as custom.  It’s hard to see in this picture but we selected a soft green thread to accent the yellow fabric.

The detail shows how the feathers wander around the quilt, I love it!

I’ve been crazy busy lately, quilting quilts and having family fun!

Tomorrow, I’ll be going to a 3 day retreat  to sew all day and maybe all night!  Rainbows and Calico Things Quilt shop has a new retreat room and we’re excited to be the first group to initiate it!  I’ll be working on my UGLY fabric challenge so look for pictures to follow.  If you want to follow my retreat adventures, head over to my Facebook page, I’ll be posting pictures of our adventures!

Have a great weekend, I know I will!!!

Cockscomb Meander video

Here’s my first foray in quilting videos!  Thanks to Connie at Artisan at Heart for requesting it and to my dear hubby for operating the camera and getting it uploaded to YouTube.  The tricky part is trying to sew with the Millennium handles straight up so they are out of the camera view.

I designed this E2E pattern when Candace of Double Nickel Quilt Challenge brought me a quilt with Kaffe Fassett fabrics.  I call it Cockscomb Meander but another good name would be Fassett Flowers!  It’s very simple and easy to change for your own personal style and density.  Here’s some quilts with the design.  Ginny’s QuiltCandace’s Quilt.  Hope you like it and have fun!!

Bryan and Ginny Quilt

Bryan and Ginny Quilt

Bryan is one of my “guy” quilters! We’re using a neutral thread, Superior OMNI Buff, Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and a pantograph called “Lime Tree

For a new quilter, Bryan is already a good sewer and takes the time to piece the back, too!

I was very excited when I saw Ginny’s quilt!  I knew exactly what E2E freehand design I wanted to do and I was hoping she would agree to hot pink thread.  I had just finished two large quilts where the thread got lost in the quilting.  As I was quilting those, I was thinking that the next quilt is going to have hot pink thread so I could see it!  And here comes Ginny with the perfect quilt!

The thread is Superior OMNI Petunia , the batting is Quilter’s Dream Puff and the E2E design is my Cockscomb meander.  I will have to say the I lost the pink thread in some of the red fabrics, and I love the pink on the blue fabric.

Our college aged daughter will be home for a long Easter weekend, so I’m sure I’ll be doing laundry instead of blogging!  Hope you have a great weekend, too!

Thanks for looking and just keep stitchin’ !
