Crazy plus Hearts and Stars quilts

Crazy plus Hearts and Stars quilts

Shell meander detail

Marilyn called this her Crazy quilt!

Crazy quilt

I love the randomness of the blocks in the close up view and the almost planned look in the full view.  What do you think?

We decided to use a hot pink thread and a shell meander for the quilting design.  I love pink thread on the black backing fabric.  It made my camera crazy, so I didn’t get a picture of that!  Do you like to contrast your quilting thread to the backing?  For me, I would say, yes and no!  It depends on the quilt!

Hearts and Stars

For Hearts and Stars, the thread is a neutral and blends with the fabric, front and back.  The thread needed to blend for this quilt to stay within it’s character.

Do you see the hearts and stars?  I had to look at this a minute to see it.  The E2E design for this one is Floral Medley, lots of different floral designs with random petals that look like hearts!

Thanks for looking!  Linda 🙂

Monkey Tails – Swirl and Curl 2

Monkey quilt

One of my go to freehand styles is Swirl and Curl.   As you know, I love quilting swirls and curls!  That’s the design I suggested for Nancy’s Jungle quilt, which had monkey backing fabric.  When I started quilting it, I decided to round the center curl to create the Monkey Tail version.

I love it!

What do you think?  The only problem with creating a new design is not making a mistake!   “Round off” was my mantra throughout the stitching process!   Send me your monkey quilts today!!  🙂

Rangeley Stars by Ann

Rangeley Stars by Ann

Rangeley Stars quiltThis is a big one!  I met Ann last January at Rainbows and Calico Things retreat.  She was taking the class to make this awesome quilt called Rangeley Stars.  Yes, January 2013 and she finished in April!!  I’ve made progress on my retreat projects but not finished!  Kudos to Ann for finishing.

We decided to finish with an freehand overall edge to edge quilting called Meandering Feathers using a dark neutral thread.Rangeley Stars by Ann

The fabric colors are much truer with natural sunlight!

Meandering Feathers detail backThe backing fabric is natural muslin, which looks great with this quilting design.  The thread is darker so the quilting stands out.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

This is another large original quilt by Linda P. using poppy panels and lots of random piecing.  I love how she used multiple fabrics and pieced elements to make this quilt.  The quilting is a mixture of freehand “drawings”.  Each element has it’s own style of texture.  Enjoy the pics!

And Linda never fails to surprise me with her “everything but the kitchen sink” backs.

There’s still time to enter to win Jennifer Chiaverini’s new book, “Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker”!  Here’s the link.

Thanks!  🙂 Linda
