Christmas Wall Hanging #1

Christmas Wall Hanging #1

It’s been fun to quilt several Christmas themed quilts or wall hangings this year.  Kinda makes me want to make one!  I guess it’ll have to be next year!  Barb has made 2 Christmas wall hangings and for this one we decided to use a simple meander and Quilter’s Dream Blend batting.

For and economical and classic look, the simple meander is perfect.  The meander can be sized smaller to give it texture and easier to stitch through those areas that needs some flattening, like the pinwheel intersections.

Kim’s made a great  quilt for her “older” neighbor that she looks in on!  We decided to use a simple meander to keep it soft and easy for her use as a lap quilt.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly Select and the thread is Superior So Fine #50.

A simple meander and Dream Poly batting makes a very usable and everyday quilt.  Dream Poly has low shrinkage, is lightweight and needle punched like cotton batting.  Just throw it into the washer and dryer, no special care required!

Today is my sister’s birthday!  I did not give her a quilt this year but here’s a couple pics of the quilt I gave her in 2004, just a few months after I got my longarm.

I started this quilt at a retreat in January sponsored by Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop.  The delectable border was fun!

The quilting is a simple meander, perfect for a beginner but I still like it!

Here’s a fun applique, buttons and bells quilt made by Linda.  This quilt  jingled as I quilted along!  To keep the quilt soft and cuddly we decided on a medium meander for the backgrounds and some outlining and detail quilting around or through the applique.  Won’t this be a fun quilt to have for the Christmas holidays?!

Have you made a T-Shirt quilt?

Have you made a T-Shirt quilt?

T-shirt quilts are a great way to commemorate life events or put all those shirts to good use!  Here’s a couple awesome t-shirt quilts made by Lauren.  Notice the sashing detail that really sets off the t-shirts.  She did a wonderful job stabilizing the t-shirt fabric which makes the quilting easier and with better results.  My usual approach to quilting the T-shirt quilt is to stitch right through the motifs with a medium to large meander.  The quilting adds texture and becomes another element without distracting from the topic of the shirts.  The quilting density is even and makes the quilts very usable.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Puff which is light and machine wash and dry.
