Zeke’s baby quilt

Zeke’s baby quilt

I love it when there’s another baby born in my family so I can make a quilt to give away!!!!  Because we didn’t know the sex, I made a quilt using lots of fun bright colors suitable for either boy or girl.  I used some of the same fabrics in his big sister Selah’s quilt!  I hope they like it!  The quilt is made with the large Twister Tool, the batting is Quilter’s Dream Puff and the thread is Superior Threads OMNI.  Unlike Selah’s, I used flannel for the backing and I machine stitched the binding to the front of the quilt.  If you haven’t made a Twisting Pinwheel quilt using the Twister Tool from Country Schoolhouse try it!  It’s very fun and fast!

Drew and Abby’s Wedding quilt

Drew and Abby’s Wedding quilt

When Drew and Abby set their wedding date a year and half ago, I was very excited because that would give me lots of time to make a very special quilt for them!   I did not want to make a king size quilt so opted for a lap size knowing that it was doable.  Abby is so artistic and creative which inspired me to start making  “wonky” or irregular log cabin blocks with all the batik scraps left over from many other quilts.  I sorted the fabrics into color groups to organize for sewing the logs from the same color family.  I should have taken a picture while I was sewing, my whole sewing room was covered with little piles of fabric!!  I wanted to quilt it with back and forth feathers which works best set on point.  And then decided to leave off the corner setting triangles leaving the non traditional shape.   Even though I had all this time to sew, I still was finishing the blocks a couple weeks before the wedding and if my sister, Patty, had not encouraged me to keep at it, it would probably still be unfinished!!  So, I stopped sewing blocks and the quilt became the size out of necessity.  The small blocks that where left ended up in the pieced back.  Enjoy the pictures, let me know what you think!

Christal’s Sun and Sky

Christal’s Sun and Sky

My dear friend Christal just celebrated a birthday and I sent her this quilt!  Thanks to Candy, Double Nickel Quilt Challenge, for agreeing to pool our blue and yellow fabrics to make this quilt (actually we have enough to make 4!).  I love how the fabrics create a secondary pattern and the “corner/middle/corner” quilting in the blocks creates more secondary patterns with the stitching.  I used variegated thread in the outer and inner borders and solid yellow for the center blocks.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton.

Stacked Squares quilt

Stacked Squares quilt

It’s really great when I get to quilt one of my own quilts, especially when they are gifts for special people.  This is a fun, fast quilt to put together from a pre-cut kit available at  The Fabric Stash Club.   I think I have made 8 of these and still don’t have one for myself!  You just stack the squares together and stitch around the edges.   Wavy outline quilting and the Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select batting adds lots of texture.  The completed quilt is machine washed and dried giving it that antique, soft and cuddly look.   The edges are going to fray which gives it a tattered look.  The combination of 100% cotton batting and homespun or yarn dyed flannel are necessary for that effect.  Just for fun, I added a greeting to the borders congratulating the recipients on their 50th wedding anniversary!

My Leftover Blues Quilt

My Leftover Blues Quilt

This quilt pattern, Just a Nickel, is designed by Candace for her Double Nickel Quilt Challenge.  Check out her blog at http://doublenickelquilts.blogspot.com/ .  It’s a very fast and easy quilt to put together.  I used leftover blue squares from another project and whatever white on white fabric I could find in my stash.  I had a few blue blocks to put into the backing fabric, too.  The quilting is simple with randomly spaced straight lines.  I used Quilter’s Dream Puff batting which is very light and gives a nice lofty feel!
