Cutting fabric…

Cutting fabric…

I’m demonstrating the Twister Tool at quilt guild later this year and I decided to use some of my bright scraps for the 5″ squares.  In the process of cutting those, I’m also cutting the remnants into 2 1/2″, 2″ and 1 1/2″ squares.  Not sure what I’m going to do with those but at least they are in a cut state and not bunched up in my laundry hampers of remnant fabrics!

My first thought is to use the 2 1/2″ or 2″ squares to make a Postage Stamp quilt.  And not that I’d need a tutorial, I still find myself looking for them on other sites.  Here’s a good link  from The Curious Quilter.  I can see that I have a long way to go to have enough squares for a quilt!  And a true Postage Stamp quilt doesn’t have any repeats.  Maybe I’ll have to join a swap to accomplish that!

Thanks for looking and just keep stitchin’

Connie’s Twister Quilt

Connie’s Twister Quilt

Don’t you love the modern colors for this twister quilt?  And Connie used the leftover squares to make the small twister border!  That’s a nice feature of using the twister tool.  Connie wanted minimal quilting that featured the twister pattern,  She also selected a darker plain backing fabric so the quilting would show on the back. I designed a tessellating pattern running through the large twisters and a smaller version for the borders.  The cream background is a small loop meander.

I love the secondary pattern this is created and evident from the back.  This will make a fun reversible quilt!

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Wool which is great for accentuating quilting!

The top thread is Superior OMNI, light tan and the bobbin thread is Superior So Fine #50 Teepee.  By using darker thread in bobbin the thread color was subtle against the orange fabric.  The lighter top thread was perfect for the background and twister fabric without having to change thread colors.

Still have a couple of quilts to post before I finish for the year and then on to 2012!

Thanks for looking!

Zeke’s baby quilt

Zeke’s baby quilt

I love it when there’s another baby born in my family so I can make a quilt to give away!!!!  Because we didn’t know the sex, I made a quilt using lots of fun bright colors suitable for either boy or girl.  I used some of the same fabrics in his big sister Selah’s quilt!  I hope they like it!  The quilt is made with the large Twister Tool, the batting is Quilter’s Dream Puff and the thread is Superior Threads OMNI.  Unlike Selah’s, I used flannel for the backing and I machine stitched the binding to the front of the quilt.  If you haven’t made a Twisting Pinwheel quilt using the Twister Tool from Country Schoolhouse try it!  It’s very fun and fast!
