Scrappy Coiled Bowls

Scrappy Coiled Bowls

Coiled bowls first attempt

Here’s my first attempt at making coiled bowls using clothesline and batiks! filled with Christmas treats     They looked even better filled with cookies! trivet and bowl thread play         My next attempt used variegated thread and a regular zig-zag stitch.  I love how the thread color changes the look of the bowl. same fabric different threads           Now I’m hooked! size reference           Here’s an idea of how big I’m making the bowls.  If you click on picture you’ll notice I used two threads for this bowl, I love it! I have to confess that I cut apart a WIP to make these.  Do you remember the convergent quilt I started recently? Well… In the process of sewing it together, I made a couple mistakes and instead of fixing it, I cut it up to make the bowls!  The strips were the perfect size! I’m linking with Such a Sew and Sew for a December finish.  Check out other finishes here. December Finishes Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Christmas Wall Hanging

Christmas Wall Hanging

Mary's Christmas Wall HangingHere’s a pretty Christmas wall hanging by Mary, just in time!  Hopefully, she’ll be able to finish the binding and hang it before Christmas Eve. Border detailIt was fun to stitch out overlapping feathers in the borders! wall hanging backIt’s hard to tell from the front but I used four different thread colors. Do you have your Christmas sewing done?!  I have a couple little projects I’d like to do, there’s still time, right? :)Linda

Moira’s Journey

Moira’s Journey

Moira's Journey   I love how creative my customers are!  Marilyn designed Moira’s Journey by enlarging a block called Kakuyose (Parquetry angles) from the book Japanese Taupe Quilts. The quilt is perfect for her sister-in-law’s Japanese inspired home.  Center quilting detail front    The quilting is a large echoed flower with bamboo and flower leis encircling. The background is quilted with a water motif accented with floating flowers. The thread is Wonderfil InvisaFil, matching the thread to the fabric.  The beige, green and red threads look great from the back, too!Center quilting detail backJust keep sewing!!! 🙂 Linda

Chalk Mat for Jordy!

Chalk Mat for Jordy!

final version after ironing

Happy Birthday, Jordy!  I’m always looking for the next best gift idea to make for my grand nieces and nephews.  After seeing these at a craft show, I decided to make my own.  Of course.  This is actually the 5th version!

My friend, Candace, auditioned the first two with her grandchildren.  I made one with batting and one without.  The consensus was that the batting was easier to write on.

After that, I worked on how to border it

Here’s a version with turned up edges.

The chalkboard fabric is so slippery, it was very hard to do this without puckering.

For the next version I added borders, using the quilt as you go method.  The binding is 4 strips with the ends turned under.  That was easy.  On a side note, dark fabric shows the white chalk residue.

The final version is Jordy’s Hot Wheels fabric and I found a long piece of gray for the binding, which I attached like I would for a quilt.  The chalkboard fabric wasn’t laying flat and I took chance and ironed it from the back on low, which improved it.

I didn’t get a picture of the kids playing with them, but they loved them!

I’m linking up with A Stitch In Time for a November finish!  I need to be finishing some quilts, but this will have to do for know!  Check out the other November finishes!
