Retreats are fun! I worked on several projects including my current Postage Stamp quilt called “Dancing Nines”. I’m almost to the half way point, 22 more blocks to go! One block is the 4 nine patches with the off-set sashing strips, measuring 11 inches finished. Check out Quiltville if you want to make your own. I also finished 3 scrappy coiled bowls!
The first two were random scrappy batiks and the last was controlled scrappy. Jane’s Convergent Quilt is gone! Jane was at our retreat and I gifted her one of the bowls using the fabric from her quilt lesson. She couldn’t believe that I cut it up! Now, I’m looking at my batiks remnants with purpose! Of course, any fabric would work, but the batiks wrap easily and fray less. When I get caught up on longarm quilting, I will be sewing more coiled bowls! Check out Judy at Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects! Thanks! Linda 🙂
Are You Ready To RETREAT!
Quilting retreat that is! Starting tonight is Rainbows and Calico Things annual Winter retreat. I have been going to this retreat since 2002, only missing a couple years when our youngest had show choir competitions. If time allows, I’ll be posting antics and pictures on my Facebook page! Hope you’re quilting this weekend, too! 🙂 Linda
Quilting Deja Vu!
Look familiar? When you have the fabric, keep making quilts! I thought she was doing random piecing but Ashton used a pattern called “Fiddlesticks“. This is another example of a quilt that I want to make!
Like her previous quilt, we used Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and simple undulating lines for the quilting.
The backing is flannel, nice. This is going to be a soft, cuddly quilt for her mom!
I can’t believe we’re one week into the new year! Do you have a long list of quilting resolutions? My list is always the same – Finish, Finish, Finish! So, I started the year quilting one of my own quilts, yay! It’s a secret until I give it away, stay tuned.
What’s on the top of your list for 2014?
🙂 Linda
Happy New 2014 Year!
Out with 2013 and in with 2014! Happy New Year to you and yours!
Even though my pile of personal quilts to finish is huge, I’m very happy with the quilts I did finish this year. I love all my quilts but one of my favorites (and most viewed) was, “Love Birds”, a wedding quilt for Ashley and Travis.
Another favorite is the project I finished for my sister, it was a “cheater” quilt but I had a tremendous amount of fun quilting it!
It’s much harder to pick my favorite customer quilt. It’s always the last one that I worked on! I’ve started more quilts because of the awesome quilts my customers make. Now, I just need to finish them. One quilt that I know I’ll never make was expertly pieced by my friend, Candra and I was honored to quilt it for her.
It’s called Wedding Bands by Judy Martin, published in her book called, Stellar Quilts. Here’s a pic of the corner, my favorite part!
Thank you, thank you to everyone who partnered with me to create finished quilts this year! I really appreciate the opportunity to explore my free-style freedom quilting. And I look forward to creating more next year!
See you next year!!!

Scrappy Hexagon and 40 Fabric Fusion
Hexagons are fun to quilt! For Linzee’s Hexagon quilt, I emphasized the kaleidoscope effect of the fabric with my version of kaleidoscope quilting. Warning, this post has lots of pictures!

Circles and feather curls are a fun detail in the solid fabric border. Linzee makes wonderful pieced backs and this is no exception.
Linzee’s second quilt is a exercise in patience! Forty Fabric Fusion. Wow! Lots of piecing and the little 1/2″ frames = patience.
The quilting is my version of Splat Cat! Do you remember the little gooey creatures your kids would throw up against the wall? I have a distinct memory of “splat cat” and when Linzee suggested quilting with no points, this is what I stitched out.
The thread is white and looks great against the red fabric on the back.
In true Linzee style the back is precisely pieced.
We’re almost to the end of the year!
🙂 Linda
