Vintage Aprons

Last Saturday, was the largest flea market in Iowa and of course, I was there with my best quilting buddy looking for vintage fabrics, quilt tops and random stuff!

I didn’t find any unfinished quilts on this trip but I scored 2 vintage aprons.  When I bought them, I was thinking I’d cut them up for the fabric, but they are so pristine and well made that they might stay aprons for awhile!

I also scored a random hunk of purple and white feedsack material and a yellow-orange Fire King soup bowl.  I love the color and how it matches the apron.  The yellow-orange apron has a cute scalloped edge, too.  What do you think, would you cut up the aprons for the fabric?

Sangria Pitcher

This was the best find!  My sister requested a cheap Sangria pitcher and look what I found for $1!!!!  It’s a perfect size, has a lip to keep the fruit from spilling and is in perfect condition!  I looked the rest of the day for another but didn’t find one this nice for this price!

I’m linking with Suzanne at Vintage Thingie Thursday!  Check out other vintage finds here.

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Three Down, One to Go!

Three Down, One to Go!

Wrapped and readyTime to reveal the sneak peak quilt!  Landon Ryan was born last night!  Of course, we headed to the hospital to hold him and give him his Tummy Time quilt and Lil’ Lovee.

Landon Ryan - one day

Landon Ryan's Tummy Time quiltHe is so adorable and even though I guessed girl, we couldn’t be happier for our niece and her hubby!

I love string quilts and scrappy quilts, therefore, this is one of my favorites!  In fact, I’ve already started another one.  With my big extended family, I’m sure I’ll need it soon!

Minkee back and quilting detailThis is the first time I’ve used Minkee for the backing fabric on a Tummy Time quilt.  I like it!  It’s super soft and shows off the quilting design.

Landon’s big brother is Jordy, who has a few of my quilted projects!  Here’s Jordy with his Tummy Time quilt.

I’m linking with Such a Sew and Sew:  A Stitch in Time for an August finish.  Check out other finishes here.  And a big thank you to Mr. Bug for drawing me to win last month!  🙂 Linda

Fancy That! Again!

Fancy That! Again!

Ellen's Fancy ThatFancy That strikes again!  Here’s Ellen’s retreat quilt from the pattern, “Fancy That”.  Check here for Mary Ellen’s version with dark background fabric.

Lettuce Leaf meanderThe batting is Quilter’s Dream Wool which adds so much texture to the quilting.   A freehand edge to edge, Lettuce Leaf meander is perfect!

back quilting detailThe thread color is white and I love the way it looks on the dark batik backing fabric.  This quilt is reversible!

I spent the day at the largest flea market in Iowa yesterday!  Stay tuned for a vintage find post!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Shell meander detail

Marilyn called this her Crazy quilt!

Crazy quilt

I love the randomness of the blocks in the close up view and the almost planned look in the full view.  What do you think?

We decided to use a hot pink thread and a shell meander for the quilting design.  I love pink thread on the black backing fabric.  It made my camera crazy, so I didn’t get a picture of that!  Do you like to contrast your quilting thread to the backing?  For me, I would say, yes and no!  It depends on the quilt!

Floral Medley quilting detail

Hearts and Stars

For Hearts and Stars, the thread is a neutral and blends with the fabric, front and back.  The thread needed to blend for this quilt to stay within it’s character.

Do you see the hearts and stars?  I had to look at this a minute to see it.  The E2E design for this one is Floral Medley, lots of different floral designs with random petals that look like hearts!

Thanks for looking!  Linda 🙂

3584 Charms Later – Postage Stamp Quilt is done!

3584 Charms Later – Postage Stamp Quilt is done!

2 inch charmsI’m done!  A big thank you to Curious Quilter for organizing multiple international swaps that resulted in my first Postage Stamp quilt using 3584 different 2″ charms.  I love it! 3584 charmsAs I made the blocks, I used a light/dark pairing which resulted in a wave of color variations.  I love the effect.  I’ll have to challenge my 10 year old granddaughter to find a duplicate among the 3,584 charms.  I don’t think there is one, but you never know!

quilting detail front and back

The quilting is a simple freehand continuous curve, or orange peel.  The finished block is 1 1/2″ so it was easy to do freehand without a ruler.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton batting and eventually I’ll wash and dry the quilt to make it even more wrinkly!

Now, the challenge is to decide on the design for PSQ #2!  I’m having fun “pinning” ideas.  Check them out here!

I’m linking up with A Stitch in Time July 2013 Finishes.  Check out other finishes here.  Thanks!  🙂 Linda
