Rainbows Arcadia Pure Velvet

Rainbows Arcadia Pure Velvet

This beautiful quilt is for Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop. When Barbara and I were planning the quilting, we decided on an overall design and Superior Highlights thread.  I decided on a pantograph because I knew I would not be able to see my stitching from the front of the machine!

The pantograph is Oma’s Garden by Sophie Collier.  Here’s the view from the back.

This is a great pantograph with lots of details and a freehand look.

My Winnings!

My Winnings!

My winnings arrived today!  Last week I won on Threadtales blog and I thought I was winning a book but a Jelly Roll of Kaffe Fassett fabric was in the package, too.  Wow!  Was I surprised and happy!  Now I’m excited to plan another project!

Check out Threadtales for machine quilting ideas and more!

Have you won anything lately?  Good luck!

SpinSanity by Celia

SpinSanity by Celia

Isn’t this a fun quilt?!  The pattern is Spinsanity, but Celia has changed it from the original.  Do you do make changes to patterns?

I was very excited to learn that Celia will be adding a piping element next to the binding.  It will be the same fabric as the narrow border.  I hope I get to see it after it’s finished.

For the quilting, we decided to do separate border designs, background fill in the dark areas and create a floral element for the spinning block centers.  I changed the thread color from Rainbows in the border and blocks to So Fine 50 in the narrow border and OMNI in the dark background.

The wool batting shows off the quilting with the right light.  Enjoy the pictures, I love how this quilt turned out!

I love the unexpected spinning flower in the blocks!

I love it when you turn the quilt to the back and it looks awesome!  I was a little worried about matching the bobbin thread to the dark OMNI thread for the background fill but it looks great on the back.

How many times did I say “love”?!

Table Runner finished!

Table Runner finished!

I’m so excited to post a “finished” for April!  So far, I had only finished a Lil Twister potholder and that seemed too lame to brag about.  I machine stitched the binding to speed up the process, too!

Both of these were added to the end of the Trip Around the World on the longarm.  It’s very satisfying to finish something, even if it’s a small project.

I’m working on a binding tutorial for the little potholder and my method for the invisible finishing seam when binding a quilt.  My dilemma is whether to make them videos or long blog posts!  We’ll see if I want to be on camera!

Design Wall Monday

My quilting buddy is moving so I cleared my sewing stuff out of her closet (I have projects and a sewing machine that live at her house!) and look what I found!

I was in a Thimbleberries Block of the Month club several years ago and I’m still trying to use up the scraps!   The pattern is from Love of Quilting, issue July/August 2010, called Nothing But Triangles.  I reduced the size of the large triangles, cutting them from 4 1/2″ strips instead of 6″ and the smaller from 3 3/8″ strips to 2 1/2″ .  I like the repeat of the pattern as laid out, but I might add on to it because I have so many triangles and fabric left, and it looks smaller than I envisioned.

However, this one might go back into my Loose Ends UFO pile for awhile.  I have to get my projects ready for an upcoming quilt retreat!

On the portable design wall:

Here’s the result of my Lil Twister demo at guild last week.  Many had not tried the Twister Tool and it was fun for them to try it and see how easy it is.  Now I’ll sew it together into a doll quilt!

Check out Judy at Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects.

I just found out that I won something on ThreadTales blog!  I’m so excited to win this book!  This is a great blog to follow for machine quilting ideas!
