Linda’s Dish Mat Tutorial

Linda’s Dish Mat Tutorial

As promised in a previous post, here’s a tutorial for the dish mats!  They are very simple and stitch up fast.  You can make them any size but for this demo, I used a fat quarter of focus fabric and a slightly larger piece of terry cloth.  I bought several yards of terry, pre-washed it and rough cut it with a scissors.  Fair warning on the terry, it shrinks, so buy more than you think that you’ll need to allow for that.

Great for drying glasses!

Here’s a pdf version of my instructions  Linda’s Dish Mat Tutorial .  Have fun!  Email your dish mat pictures to:

Update:  I’ve revisited making Dish Mats!  Here’s a new easier version with borders!  Check it out here!  Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Another DNQC, check!

Another DNQC, check!

I’m back from a great 3 day quilting retreat!  The retreat was lots of fun meeting new people and reuniting with others.  I worked on some of my loose ends and yes, I started some new ones!

Here’s another quilt by Candace of The Double Nickel Quilt Challenge called Chevrony.  We wanted a design to fit the pattern so I created a continuous curve scroll  that travels through the triangles in the zig-zags.

The lavender thread compliments and contrasts the multiple fabric colors.

And the quilting creates a nice secondary pattern from the back, bonus!

Still have a few more quilts to finish for the The Double Nickel Challenge!!

Thanks for looking!

Bryan and Ginny quilts

Bryan and Ginny quilts

Ginny’s husband has started quilting and here’s his first quilt!  Pretty ambitious!

The quilting is a freehand meander with Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and the thread is Superior OMNI.

He even created a nice pieced back.  And, I understand he’s working on another one!

Ginny picked up her quilt, too.  I love the color palette on this quilt using Amy Butler fabrics.

It’s quilted with with a freehand peacock feathers meander.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend and the thread is Superior OMNI light tan.

I love the texture created with the quilting, especially on the back.

I’ll be going to a 3 day quilting retreat this weekend.  I plan to work on some loose ends and start some new ones!  I’ll  report back later!

I entered a quilt in this week’s Quilting Blogger’s themed contest, New Beginnings.  I’ll post the link tomorrow for you to see all the quilts and vote if you like!

Thanks for looking and just keep stitching!

Linda
