3584 Charms Later – Postage Stamp Quilt is done!

3584 Charms Later – Postage Stamp Quilt is done!

2 inch charmsI’m done!  A big thank you to Curious Quilter for organizing multiple international swaps that resulted in my first Postage Stamp quilt using 3584 different 2″ charms.  I love it! 3584 charmsAs I made the blocks, I used a light/dark pairing which resulted in a wave of color variations.  I love the effect.  I’ll have to challenge my 10 year old granddaughter to find a duplicate among the 3,584 charms.  I don’t think there is one, but you never know!

The quilting is a simple freehand continuous curve, or orange peel.  The finished block is 1 1/2″ so it was easy to do freehand without a ruler.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton batting and eventually I’ll wash and dry the quilt to make it even more wrinkly!

Now, the challenge is to decide on the design for PSQ #2!  I’m having fun “pinning” ideas.  Check them out here!

I’m linking up with A Stitch in Time July 2013 Finishes.  Check out other finishes here.  Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Here there be dragons!

Here there be dragons!

Dragons!  When Nancy sent me the Dragon quilt, her instructions were to have fun with it!  And have fun, I did!

Seven thread colors, multiple custom designs and lots of details later resulted in a fun quilt for Nancy’s grandson.

I hope her grandson enjoys his quilt as much as I enjoyed quilting it!

Fancy That!

Fancy That!

Freehand E2EI met Mary Ellen at a quilting retreat in January when she started this quilt.

Aren’t the colors awesome!

Mary Ellen's Fancy That quiltThe pattern is called Fancy That.  I love the colors Mary Ellen selected for this quilt.

Detail Peacock Feather meanderIt was fun to select thread to compliment the gold flecked black.  We decided to use a deep rust and it looks great!

The quilting design is a freehand edge to edge called peacock feathers meander.

Stay tuned for a repeat of this quilt in completely different fabrics by another retreat attendee, Ellen!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Modern Chevron Baby Quilt

Modern Chevron Baby Quilt

Ashton's Chevron quiltChevrons and zig zags are everywhere!  Ashton, a new quilter, designed this modern chevron quilt for a new baby’s room.  The orange matches the decor and the single row of aqua adds a splash of interest.

Ashton asked for a big swirly quilting design.  No problem!  I love quilting “Swirl ‘n Curl”!  Quilting big can be a problem as I tend to quilt small!

Swirl 'n CurlThe half square triangles are 8″ blocks and my swirls cover the area without being too tiny!

shadow thru backThe backing is light and the view from the back is cool, too!

Have you made a chevron quilt or plan to?  Here’s a great pattern from Double Nickel Quilt Challenge called Chevrony.  It’s on my quilts to make list.  Check out my Pinterest Quilts to Make board for other quilts on my list!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Wedding Bands

Wedding Bands

Wedding Bands, Stellar Quilts

In honor of our 22 wedding anniversary today, I’m sharing Wedding Bands!  The quilt pattern can be found in Judy Martin’s book, Stellar Quilts.

It’s a big one!  Much bigger than my hanging space and the space at the Williamsburg Quilt show, where it’s on display this weekend.

My friend and co-worker, Candra, perfectly pieced this quilt and had every intention of hand quilting it for her client.

I was very honored that she entrusted me to quilt it similar to the quilting design in Judy Martin’s book.  Candra added additional borders to the quilt, giving me space to extend the quilting theme of ghosted blocks surrounded by feathers.  I thoroughly enjoyed quilting this but after having it on the frame for 2 1/2 weeks, I took a break!

The thread is a matching So Fine! #50 in each area.  The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly select.  Enjoy the pictures and thanks for looking!
