A Quilt for Audrey Ruth!

A Quilt for Audrey Ruth!

wedding squares

One thing I love about making quilts, is that every quilt has it’s own story!  The wedding favors for my son’s wedding in 2011 used 5″ squares of Amy Butler fabric.  I went to a quilting retreat 2 weeks after their wedding and started making a baby quilt for them using the leftover fabric!quilt hanging over fenceAfter adding more Amy Butler fabric for the borders and backing, their baby quilt was born!quilt hanging on treeYes, I made their baby quilt years before baby!  However, last month we hosted a baby shower where I was able to present my beautiful daughter in law the “Baby Wedding Quilt”!

None too soon, because on September 1, we met our newest granddaughter, Audrey Ruth!Baby Audrey on her quiltYes, this is not my usual Tummy Time quilt, she’ll be able to use this for a long time!Audrey close upShe’s pretty perfect and I look forward to making more quilts for her and maybe future siblings!!

Thanks!!  Linda 🙂

Purple Puzzle Quilt for Alexis

Purple Puzzle Quilt for Alexis

Alexis surpiseMy grand niece, Alexis, will be a sophomore in college so I’m only one year late for this high school graduation quilt!  I think she was surprised!Alexis's Purple PuzzlesOnce I knew purple was her favorite color, I started collecting and trading purple fat quarters and then designed a simple puzzle pattern using EQ7.simple grid quiltingUsing five different purple threads, I quilted a simple uneven grid.  The different threads don’t show as much as I thought they would!

Thanks!!

From MQS to Market – Spring 2015!

From MQS to Market – Spring 2015!

Last week was a crazy week of volunteering and vending, starting with Machine Quilters Showcase in Cedar Rapids, IA and ending with International Quilt Market in Minneapolis, MN!  Tiger, TigerOptical Illusions was the theme for MQS 2015 and this quilt “Tiger, Tiger” by Kristin Vierra of Lincoln, NE won first place for Theme and Viewer’s Choice.  Here’s a list of the winners.   I was very excited to have a national quilt show in my back yard and while I didn’t take classes or enter a quilt, I did volunteer for several days!  Volunteering in the judges’ room was a fabulous experience and I have great respect for the judges and those who enter their quilts.  In addition to volunteering, I worked in a vendor booth for Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop.

I ended the week with a quick trip to Spring Quilt Market Minneapolis to help in my friend in her exhibitor booth as she launches her pattern company, Double Nickel Quilts!  I did get to walk around market and meet the wonderful folks at Quilters Dream Batting and check out their new 80/20 pink batting!

It was a whirlwind of a week but I would do it all over again, it was so much fun!  Now, I’m back in the studio quilting away, trying to keep on schedule.

My comments are still turned off but I love hearing from you, especially if you were at MQS or Quilt Market!

New Quilt Easy Video

New Quilt Easy Video

I love quilting the Rainbow Twister quilts with a continuous pinwheel design.  I chose a neutral thread that contrasts with all the classic Kona charm squares.  In this case, it’s Superior So Fine! #50 – 458 Lone Wolf.  The batting is Quilters Dream Puff, a favorite, to add some loft.  Enjoy the Quilt Easy video!

Sometimes, I plan to quilt two projects at once, like this Rainbow Twister.  These are for two little one year old boys!  Alex got his last week, I’m excited for E to get his next week!

quilting in progress

The second pass of vertical lines is added to complete the grid but I don’t remove and rotate the quilts, I use the needle down on my machine and advance the quilt!  Easy!

Thanks!

Linda
