A few finds in Omaha…

A few finds in Omaha…

Fire King bowl and scrap fabric

Old Market is a fun area for vintage shopping in downtown Omaha.  Our daughter is a great searching partner, we both look for different things so we don’t miss anything fun!  She treated me to this pristine Fire King bowl, sweet!

We found a few quilt shops to check out around Omaha, too.  I bought a couple scrap bags and my granddaughter selected a mystery bag of $1 fat quarters.   The funny thing is the scrap bags I picked out were mostly green and the mystery fat quarters were green!!  And I might have embarrassed my daughter when I noticed some fabric in the trash and asked if they were going to throw it away!?  Well, yes and she gave it to me!  That’s the fabric in the bowl.  Fabric in the trash is not safe around me!

The countdown to Festival begins!  Are you going?  Have you been?

Thanks.  Linda 🙂

Fabulous Folded Bags or InstaBowls!

Fabulous Folded Bags or InstaBowls!

bowl one and two

Here’s a fun project to try.  The Fabulous Folded Bags is one of the patterns I purchased at the recent AQS show in Des Moines.

Fab Folded Bowls

First, I changed the construction to the pillow case method similar to my dish mats and then I folded them differently.  Instead of folding the flaps to the inside, which I felt was too bulky, I left the corners on the outside.

If you fold the flaps out, the bottom looks like a petal!

The inside of the bag has a four patch design, too.

This a great project for sacrificing a couple of fat quarters and batting remnants.  If you have some large batting samples, they are perfect for this.  The hard part is deciding which fat quarters to use!

My InstaBowl will be in my project bag for small group sewing days.  Instant scrap bin!  What will you use yours for?

It’s little but it’s a finish!

I’m joining the October finishes linky party at Such a Sew and Sew: A Stitch in Time.

Not my bags for Houston!!  It’s hundreds of 2″ charms ready to mail next week!  Have you signed up to swap?  Check out The Curious Quilter for all the details!

What am I going to do with hundreds of new charms?  Keep sewing charms quilts, of course!  Here’s a link to my first completed PSQ, which I love!

PSQ2 - Dancing Nines

My PSQ #2 is a Bonnie Hunter Dancing Nines pattern.  I love this one, too!  Sewing nine patches is so therapeutic!

It won’t be long and I will be packing my bags for Houston!  See you there!

Another scrap quilt started!!  Denise gave me a great tutorial on making Mile a Minute crumb blocks at our fabulous retreat during the AQS Des Moines quilt show last weekend!   I’m auditioning possible fabric for the sashing strips.

What do you think?

Here’s an example of a crumb quilt with diagonal setting and a fun crumb strip detail giving it an argyle look.  This was a favorite from the Des Moines quilt guild’s show.

I have enough crumbs to make multiple quilts, so I’ll make the straight set first and then argyle set.

Did you make it to the AQS show in Des Moines?

Check out Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects!

Thanks!  Linda 🙂

Thread Galore and New Lights!

Thread Galore and New Lights!

So Fine 50

And this is only my So Fine! #50 collection!  My wonderful hubby replaced the lights over my longarm for my birthday, which prompted taking a thread inventory and cleaning.  As you can see, I love using Superior Threads So Fine! #50 thread!  Believe it or not, I made a short shopping list for the AQS show in Des Moines this weekend.

The lights are on!

I’m excited to load a quilt and see if the new lights are in improvement.  Just in time for the shorter days, so I can keep stitching later!

Are you going to the AQS show in Des Moines?  I’ll be working at Rainbows and Calico Things Thursday, come see me when you’re driving to Des Moines!  And I’ll be Des Moines for the weekend, sewing with friends and cruising the quilt show and vendors!  See you there!
