Design Wall Monday

My quilting buddy is moving so I cleared my sewing stuff out of her closet (I have projects and a sewing machine that live at her house!) and look what I found!

I was in a Thimbleberries Block of the Month club several years ago and I’m still trying to use up the scraps!   The pattern is from Love of Quilting, issue July/August 2010, called Nothing But Triangles.  I reduced the size of the large triangles, cutting them from 4 1/2″ strips instead of 6″ and the smaller from 3 3/8″ strips to 2 1/2″ .  I like the repeat of the pattern as laid out, but I might add on to it because I have so many triangles and fabric left, and it looks smaller than I envisioned.

However, this one might go back into my Loose Ends UFO pile for awhile.  I have to get my projects ready for an upcoming quilt retreat!

On the portable design wall:

Here’s the result of my Lil Twister demo at guild last week.  Many had not tried the Twister Tool and it was fun for them to try it and see how easy it is.  Now I’ll sew it together into a doll quilt!

I just found out that I won something on ThreadTales blog!  I’m so excited to win this book!  This is a great blog to follow for machine quilting ideas!

Design Wall Monday – Almost finished!

Design Wall Monday – Almost finished!

I’m almost finished!  Just need to add the pieced borders and the top will be done.  I was a little worried that I should have done the math for the pieced borders because I changed the dimensions from the quilt pattern but happily it’d didn’t matter, they’ll fit perfectly.  I’m loving the look of the quilt!  And I’m loving that all the fabric was from my stash!

Tonight, I demo the Little Twister Tool at quilt guild so I finished the other little pot holder that I quilted on the longarm last week.  I’m trying to perfect attaching the binding and it worked so well, I’m ready to do a tutorial.  Stay tuned!

Design Wall Monday and Plan Ahead

Design Wall Monday and Plan Ahead

My “Tangy” quilt is getting bigger!  Now, I’m trying to decide on the size and whether to go square or rectangle.  This will probably be someone’s baby quilt so this might be big enough, especially after 2 borders are added.

My other “design wall topic” is about planning ahead.  When you’re preparing your backing for your quilt top, consider making it large enough for an unfinished table runner, orphan blocks or pillow shams.  Especially, if you quilt by check.  My customer’s know that I will load their little projects after their quilt and they will save!

Loose End Quilting

Loose End Quilting

I’m taking the long weekend with our daughter visiting to sneak in this “loose end” and quilt it.  I’ll add my table runner to the end and maybe a few other small projects like a potholder or orphan blocks.  After looking at it for two days, I’ve decided to quilt it with a very small meander and use 100% cotton batting.  After it’s finished, I’ll wash and dry it to purposely shrink it to give it the wrinkled antique look.

Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!

Spoiler Alert to my sister, Patty!

I’m still working on my Trash to Treasure Pineapple quilt but I got sidetracked this week with my sister’s T-shirt quilt.  This is one of those projects that keeps getting set aside but now I’m determined to finish this “Loose End”!  Patty helped me out this week by eliminating some of the t-shirts and they may end up in a second quilt!

So, I’m off and sewing!  Because the t-shirt panels are various sizes, I’m making 4 vertical rows and building the smaller motifs to fit the row width.  I love it!!
