Applique and Broderie Perse Table topper

Applique and Broderie Perse Table topper

Linda has created a table topper of her own design with applique borders and a broderie perse basket of flowers in the center and 3 corners.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select, perfect for table toppers because it drapes well and is very flat.  The thread is 2 colors of Superior OMNI.

Every part has a different element, so enjoy the pictures!

Patty’s T-shirt quilt – check! A May finish!

Patty’s T-shirt quilt – check! A May finish!

I finally finished my sister’s T-shirt quilt and presented it to her today!  In my usual style, I folded the quilt with the label facing out and wrapped it with the selvage edges from the backing fabric.

It wasn’t  a surprise, but I didn’t tell her that I had finally finished it.   I had some time today so I came to her work to give it to her.  I love how it turned out!

Here’s part of the secret message label.  I “wrote” in reverse on the front, a message only readable from the back.

Making and giving quilts is such a happy occasion!

Thanks for looking.  I’m linking up here!

Design Wall Monday and retreat update

Design Wall Monday and retreat update

We had a great quilting retreat at A Place to Sew in DeSoto, WI.  What a wonderful place to sew, sew and sew!  Here’s one of the quilts that I started, Love’s Woven Rectangles.  I designed this on EQ7, based on other quilts of this style, when I decided to re-purpose this fabric.  I cut the long borders today because I didn’t want to piece this fabric for the wide borders.

I posted pictures throughout the weekend on my Facebook page and got a request for the measurements.  So here’s the details for making your own Woven Rectangles.

Cut print fabric into 5 1/2″ strips

Cut solid fabric into 2″ strips

Sew solid strips to each side of print fabric using scant 1/4″ seam.  An accurate seam is important to achieve a finished 8 1/2″ strip set.  (Ask me how I know that!)

A short strip is pictured here because I cut the long borders from this fabric.  For all the other fabrics, I cut width of fabric to make the strip sets.

Cut the strip sets into 8 1/2″ segments.  The blocks are a 8 1/2″ square.

Repeat this step for every print fabric.

Alternate the blocks to create a woven look.  I’m making 80 blocks for an 8 x 10 setting.  My design wall picture is a random setting but I’ll probably play around with other looks.

Cut additional 2″ solid fabric strips to make the narrow inner border.

Cut 5 1/2″ strips, either lengthwise or crosswise (for pieced) from the border fabric.

Here’s my link for adding borders to your quilt top.

Thanks for looking and have fun planning your own Woven Rectangles!  Check out Judy at Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects.

Just keep stitchin’ !

A Quilting Retreat Weekend!

A Quilting Retreat Weekend!

Seven of us are off to a quilting retreat this weekend!  Because I’m suffering from Quilting ADHD,  I can’t stay focused and every quilting idea I see online, I want to make!!!

My list of projects (unless I change my mind!)

1.  Pineapple trash to treasure quilt – see picture here.

2.  Purple trip around the world – see picture here.

3.  Love’s woven rectangles – a totally new project that started out as a kit, purchased last fall during our bus trip.  After musing over the included pattern, I decided to make my own design using EQ7.  I  made one fabric change, which of course, required a purchase!  Not sure how to import the EQ7 pattern into this post but here’s a picture of the fabric all cut and ready to sew!

4.  Hand sewing – binding on my finished trip around the world – here’s a before picture.

5.  Anything else I decide to throw in at the last minute!

We are going to A Place to Sew in DeSoto, Wisconsin!  I’ll be posting pictures from the banks of the mighty Mississippi to my facebook page!!  You can “like” my page at facebook.com/LRDesignsquilting

Have a great weekend!  I know I will!!
