Design Wall Monday – a dilemma

Design Wall Monday – a dilemma

vintage flea market blocks

I have a dilemma.   I love this partially sewn quilt.  This is the second appearance for this vintage UFO on Design Wall Monday!   My dilemma is how to construct these pieces and parts into a quilt.  I am tempted to re-cut each block into a uniform shape and then sew it together.  Some of the seams have slight tears and this would solve that issue.  I like the randomness of the blocks, but I don’t want to find holes when I go to quilt it.

Any suggestions?  How much work would you put into “vintage” blocks from a flea market?

I know it’s Tuesday but check out other Design Wall Monday projects here!

Thanks for looking and would love your comments about my dilemma!  🙂 Linda

Design Wall Monday – Big “O” Quilt

Design Wall Monday – Big “O” Quilt

20 Big O Blocks

My quilting buddy, Candace, always has an idea for my fabric.  I had a fat quarter bundle, some solid fabric and no quilting plan.  Here’s a blog post at selfsewn that we based this quilt on.  Selfsewn called her quilt, “Shoofly”, I’m calling mine, “Big O”. I love how it looks and I hope I can find some time to sew it together!

Shoo Fly

In BlockBase this is #1645.  One of the published names is Shoo Fly.  It’s the same as my “Big O” block with the colors rearranged!

Design Wall Monday and Retreat Re-Cap

Design Wall Monday and Retreat Re-Cap

Nine Patch with Solids

This quilt project is inspired by an old quilt that my quilting buddy, Candace, was repairing.  The simple layout of nine patches and solid said, “Make me!”.  I got out my box of 2 1/2″ squares and added some solids.  Some of the solids are a Simply Color Ombre jelly roll which adds a fun dimension to the nine patches.

Thanks to Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop for a great retreat!  I’ve attended her retreats since 2002, so it’s always fun to see familiar faces and meet some new ones!  Here’s one of the show and tell quilts that is my next inspiration!

Deb's Strippy Quilt

I couldn’t get the whole quilt in the picture, but you can see the star pattern created in the middle.  I love it!  I’ve already got fabric for the background, so this will go on the quilts to make list!

During retreat, I started 2 secret projects, (for one of them all the blocks are done!), made 2 microwave fabric bowls, started and finished a Jelly Roll Race Quilt!  Check out my facebook page for some pictures.  And, my brain is just overflowing with ideas for future projects!

Candace is starting a new blog tomorrow about Nancy Cabot, be sure to check it out, too!

Thanks!  🙂 Linda

Lil’ Twister Potholder Binding Tutorial

Lil’ Twister Potholder Binding Tutorial

Lil' Twister Potholders

What’s on my design wall today?  Two Lil’ Twister Potholders completed using my potholder or small project binding tutorial.

In a previous post, I gave brief instructions for using a 5 inch square to make this little potholder with the Lil’ Twister Tool by Country Schoolhouse.

After several inquiries about how I attached the binding with the little loop, I’ve prepared a complete tutorial!  Here’s the pdf of Lil’ Twister Potholder Binding Tutorial .

Have fun!

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 4

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 4

My design wall is bare today, except for Block 4 of the BlockBase Sew Along.

For this block, I used 1 1/2″ strips and 2 1/2″ squares in the corners.  This block finishes 9″ and my other blocks are 8″.  The 3 x 3 grid element of this block made it harder to complete as an 8″ without paper piecing.  It’s such a simple block, I decided let it be 9″.  We’ll see what happens with the next block!

Once again, the fabrics are from my newly acquired vintage stash!  It’s a little busy but I like it!
