Another T-Shirt Quilt – Done!

Another T-Shirt Quilt – Done!

Steph's 20 Shirt quilt

This has been the year for T-Shirt quilts!  Here’s the fourth t-shirt quilt that I’ve been commissioned to make.  This 20 shirt quilt is for Steph, a recent high school graduate.  Her mom brought me the shirts, Steph’s diagram for the layout and a general idea for fabric.  Working at a quality quilt shop helps with fabric buying!

One of the things I love about making t-shirt quilts is using shirts with a some wear and tear, a stain or a little hole.  Another thing is the product I use for the interfacing, Pellon Easy-Knit Fusible.  A wrinkled and rumpled t-shirt will become smooth and pliable.  The interfacing is a must when it come to quilting.

Medium Swirl and Curl

Back viewI often use a basic meander for t-shirt quilts but this one wanted a medium Swirl and Curl.

And I love quilting Swirl and Curl!

Here’s the 3rd quilt that I quilted after I got my longarm in 2004!  Barbara of Rainbows and Calico Things quilt shop made it, using my son’s t-shirts left behind when he went off to college.  The stars points are folded, which is  fun dimensional accent but not fun to quilt with a longarm because the hopping foot gets caught!Drew's Left Behind Ts

The quilt was on display in the shop before I gave it to him for Christmas in 2005.

Swirl and Curl quilting

My extended family will be having four babies this year!  And yesterday was the arrival of the first, Kailani Harper!  I love making Tummy Time quilts for the babies and here’s the one I made for Kailani.

If you’ve followed my blog you might have seen the design process for making this quilt.  All the fabric was leftover from another quilt!

The batting is Quilter’s Dream 100% cotton select with another layer of Quilter’s Dream Puff!  I love the texture of the double batting and my new favorite Swirl and Curl freehand quilting design.  I challenge the parents to use the quilts and I’ll make them another if they wear it out!

Got Charms?

Got Charms?

500 plus charms

A big thank you to my postage stamp charm swappers!  With 500 new charms, I’m ready to design the next quilt.  I’m searching and pinning ideas for the next PSQ.  Do you have a suggestion for me?

3584 charms

My first PSQ is almost ready for quilting.  Each charm will be quilted with continuous curve or an X.  I’m excited to fit it into my quilting schedule.  Would it be weird to use up all my partial bobbins of thread in random order?  We’ll see what happens!

Thanks!!!  🙂 Linda

PSQ Update – Design Wall Monday

3584 charms

I’ve been sneaking time away from LAQ to randomly sew PSQ blocks together.  The 8 rows are assembled and ready for the last step.  I’m so excited to get this finished and on the longarm for quilting.  I love, love the look of 3584 charms with no border.

I still have lots of charms and if Mary at The Curious Quilter does another swap, I’ll be signing up for that!

Are you on Pinterest?  I’m pinning PSQ ideas on my Quilts to Make board.

Have you made a Postage Stamp Quilt (PSQ)?  Leave a comment sharing your favorite PSQ, I need more ideas!

Check out Judy at Patchwork Times for other Design Wall Monday projects.

Little Vintage Finish and Back to Work!

Little Vintage Finish and Back to Work!

50 cent find

Retreats and Florida vacation, oh my!

Here’s one of my flea market bargains, finished!  It measures about 32 x 39 inches and I’m amazed how great it looks quilted.  The sewing is very “off” and several blocks were trimmed in the process of squaring it up for binding.  Even with puckered seams and unusual fabric, I love how it looks!  I finished it with some very old chambray fabric from my pre-quilting stash.  This would make a great little play mat or mini picnic quilt.  In case you’re wondering, I paid 50 cents for the unfinished quilt top!

I’m linking up with A Stitch in Time for a February finish.

Yes,Orlando was wonderful and we had a great time enjoying the sunshine and walks around the lake.  My son likes to grow a beard for Florida “winters”!  We visited a couple nice quilt shops, too.

Now that taxes, laundry and mail are caught up, I can get back to LAQ.  The next one is big.  The backing fabric uses every inch of my leaders!
