Quilting Deja Vu!

Quilting Deja Vu!

Soft Lines 2Look familiar?  When you have the fabric, keep making quilts!  I thought she was doing random piecing but Ashton used a pattern called “Fiddlesticks“.  This is another example of a quilt that I want to make!

Like her previous quilt, we used Quilter’s Dream Puff batting and simple undulating lines for the quilting.

Flannel backingThe backing is flannel, nice.  This is going to be a soft, cuddly quilt for her mom!

I can’t believe we’re one week into the new year!  Do you have a long list of quilting resolutions?  My list is always the same – Finish, Finish, Finish!  So, I started the year quilting one of my own quilts, yay!  It’s a secret until I give it away, stay tuned.

What’s on the top of your list for 2014?

Out with 2013 and in with 2014!  Happy New Year to you and yours!

a little sliver of aqua love

Even though my pile of personal quilts to finish is huge, I’m very happy with the quilts I did finish this year.  I love all my quilts but one of my favorites (and most viewed) was, “Love Birds”, a wedding quilt for Ashley and Travis.

Another favorite is the project I finished for my sister, it was a “cheater” quilt but I had a tremendous amount of fun quilting it!

It’s much harder to pick my favorite customer quilt.  It’s always the last one that I worked on!  I’ve started more quilts because of the awesome quilts my customers make.  Now, I just need to finish them.   One quilt that I know I’ll never make was expertly pieced by my friend, Candra and I was honored to quilt it for her.

It’s called Wedding Bands by Judy Martin, published in her book called, Stellar Quilts.  Here’s a pic of the corner, my favorite part!

Thank you, thank you to everyone who partnered with me to create finished quilts this year!  I really appreciate the opportunity to explore my free-style freedom quilting.   And I look forward to creating more next year!

See you next year!!!

Scrappy Hexagon and 40 Fabric Fusion

Scrappy Hexagon and 40 Fabric Fusion

Linzee's Hexagon quiltHexagons are fun to quilt!  For Linzee’s Hexagon quilt, I emphasized the kaleidoscope effect of the fabric with my version of kaleidoscope quilting.  Warning, this post has lots of pictures!kaleidoscope quiltingdetail kaleidoscope quiltingcircles and curl feather borderCircles and feather curls are a fun detail in the solid fabric border.  Linzee makes wonderful pieced backs and this is no exception.

pieced backLinzee’s second quilt is a exercise in patience!  Forty Fabric Fusion.  Wow!  Lots of piecing and the little 1/2″ frames = patience.

Linzee's 40 Fabric FusionThe quilting is my version of Splat Cat!  Do you remember the little gooey creatures your kids would throw up against the wall?  I have a distinct memory of “splat cat” and when Linzee suggested quilting with no points, this is what I stitched out.

Splat Cat 1  The thread is white and looks great against the red fabric on the back.

Splat Cat 2In true Linzee style the back is precisely pieced.

precise pieced back   We’re almost to the end of the year!

Scrappy Coiled Bowls

Scrappy Coiled Bowls

Coiled bowls first attempt

Here’s my first attempt at making coiled bowls using clothesline and batiks! filled with Christmas treats     They looked even better filled with cookies! trivet and bowl thread play         My next attempt used variegated thread and a regular zig-zag stitch.  I love how the thread color changes the look of the bowl. same fabric different threads           Now I’m hooked! size reference           Here’s an idea of how big I’m making the bowls.  If you click on picture you’ll notice I used two threads for this bowl, I love it! I have to confess that I cut apart a WIP to make these.  Do you remember the convergent quilt I started recently? Well… In the process of sewing it together, I made a couple mistakes and instead of fixing it, I cut it up to make the bowls!  The strips were the perfect size! I’m linking with Such a Sew and Sew for a December finish.  Check out other finishes here. December Finishes Thanks!  Linda 🙂
