How many Yo-Yos make a quilt? – Design Wall Monday

How many Yo-Yos make a quilt? – Design Wall Monday

Oops!  I’ve done it again!  My photographer daughter, Stephanie, discovered a nice vintage Yo-Yo coverlet at a consignment shop with a pretty hefty price tag recently.  While vintage is great, it’s a lot spend for photo props.  So how about making one?  Sure!!  I love starting projects!

After testing the Clover Yo-Yo maker, I have to say I’m hooked!  They are fun and easy to make and every one is perfect!  Even a non sewer could make these and Stephanie’s planning to start making them, too.

I’m using the extra large yo-yo maker that needs a 5.5″ square of fabric.  OF COURSE, I’ve just cut about everything I own into 5″, 2.5″ and 2″ squares!  So, now I’m perusing my fabric again looking for larger pieces.  Fortunately, for making Yo-Yos, you do not need the best fabric, so I’m digging out some of my older fabric from my sewing and crafting days.  Just add color!  I’m a little scared to figure out how many we’ll need to make, 625 for a lap size?

Have you made a Yo-Yo coverlet?  Any tips or advice?  I’d love to hear from you.  If you have pictures, send them to linda @ lrdesignsquilting.com  (remove spaces) and I’ll post them.

Design Wall Monday – 37 done, 19 to go!

Design Wall Monday – 37 done, 19 to go!

I’m so excited to have 37 PSQ blocks done!  It was great to get all the new charms from my swappers and my quilting buddies.  Quilters are so generous with their time and scraps, thank you everyone!

A big thank you to Mary at The Curious Quilter for arranging the swap.  What a chore!  I signed up for 10 swaps and 2 newbies and that was a challenge!

Have a great week!  🙂 Linda

Vintage Quilt part 2

Vintage Quilt part 2

Here’s the full reveal of the vintage quilt from this post. Most of the nine patch blocks were hand pieced by Sandy’s friend who is 93.  She started the blocks years ago (during her 40’s!) and Sandy is helping her finish it.  Does it remind you of today’s improv and modern quilts?

Here’s the coordinating bed runner.  The little pinwheel blocks are not pieced but fussy cut from the fabric.  They fooled me the first time I looked at them.  What’s really great about finishing this quilt is that she plans to use it!  She’ll finally get to sleep under it.  Once again, I was honored to be part of getting this project done.

Do you have an vintage unfinished quilt in your closet?  What’s the story behind it?

Thanks for looking!  🙂 Linda
