What’s on the design wall? The beginning of my second Postage Stamp quilt! The design is a Bonnie Hunter pattern called, Dancing Nines. While it may not be a traditional PSQ, I wanted my PSQ #2 to be totally different from the first. I’m using my swap charms so every charms is unique.
I love it!
The nine patches sew together fast as leaders and enders or as mindless sewing, my favorite!

Many years ago, before I started “quilting”, I made a string quilt using the scraps from the clothes I was making for our daughter. The quilt is tied with polyester high loft batting and the backing is rolled to the front finishing the edges. Confetti Toss is the antique quilt it’s patterned after, published in Quilts Sew Quick by Oxmoor House in 1995. I’m still making string quilts, however they have evolved!

What does a quilter take to a 2 year old’s birthday party for a present? Dolly quilts!
As a true scrap quilter, I went to my box of “magic squares” and found sample cuts of a fabric line and random squares of miscellaneous scraps donated to me.
This group is perfect for Anabel’s dolly quilt, the birthday girl.
The random squares are great for Jordy, not his birthday but it’s fun to have a gift for him, too.
The quilts are pillow-cased with no batting. I used flannel and Minkee for the backing fabric. My expert grandma friend, Candace, recommends no batting for dolly quilts, it’s better for wrapping the babies!
I couldn’t get the birthday girl, Anabel, to pose but here’s Jordy and his baby taking a nap.

Ashley and Travis are married! We’re back from their Nashville destination wedding! I was honored to present the newlyweds with a quilt, “Love Birds”, while we cruised up and down the Cumberland River enjoying great scenery and awesome southern food!
Thanks to Facebook pictures, I knew Ashley would like a black and white themed quilt. When I saw a version of this quilt, I knew I could change it to fit Ashley and Travis’ black and white decor.
The flying geese blocks are black/white fabrics with three aqua geese scattered around. The background fabric is several white and white on white fabrics. The color variety among the white is more obvious in the bright August sunlight. The quilting is simple undulating rows I call Shifting Sands.
The back of the quilt is pieced with the leftover flying geese, making the quilt reversible.
Just for fun, I added a little piece of aqua fabric into the binding, angling the seams like a flying geese block. I positioned it near the bottom corner where the quilt is all white. I love it!
I used a silver marker to label the quilt near the aqua sliver.
Four babies and a wedding, done! Never fear, I’m still designing and sewing quilts, there’s always next year!!

Here’s a link to purchase this pattern, originally published as “Snow Geese” by Jean Nolte in Fons and Porter Easy Quilts. I did not follow the pattern construction methods for making flying geese or the layout of the background fabric. I basically re-wrote the pattern! Do you do that?

Baby #4, Aria Lennon, was born today!! She’s so sweet and cuddly, we had to make a trip to the hospital to see her.
I had so much fun making Aria’s Tummy Time quilt with 2 fat quarter bundles of fairy princess fabrics!
Most of my baby quilts are super scrappy but this one is coordinated and designed for the fabric. My quilting buddy, Candace, helped design the layout, color placement and border design.
Each block has a fussy cut princess with raw edge applique. I attached them to the center with a bunch of longarm quilting!
Each block has it’s own quilting detail.
I washed and dried the quilt to fluff up the applique edges and soften the quilt. Here it is all wrapped and ready with a Lil’ Lovee attached.
Now that the babies are done for the year, the next big event is a wedding!!! Stay tuned for that reveal!!
