It’s Here! All Iowa Shop Hop

Come to Iowa, it’s time to go shop hopping! June 1 – 20 are the dates for the All Iowa Shop Hop! Collect a free 6″ KONA cotton solid charm square at each shop, acquire some of the special Iowa fabric and get lots of ideas for future projects!

Here’s one of the quilt kits you’ll see at Rainbow and Calico Things quilt shop in Williamsburg, Iowa.

The pattern is called “Full Moon Rising” and features the limited edition Iowa fabric.

All shops with have the same hours (Sundays are optional, call ahead).

Monday through Friday 9 AM to 6 PM
Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM
Sunday noon to 4 PM

I’ll be working several days at Rainbows and Calico Things, I hope to see you there!!!

Purple and Grey Chevron Quilt

I love it when a quilt lets me play! For Mary’s Chevron quilt, each white zig-zag is quilted with a different motif. The double zig-zag rows are quilted with a free-hand Swirl and Curl. My camera didn’t like purple and thankfully, it wasn’t raining so I could take an outside picture.

The pieced back is busy fabric except the solid grey, which lets the quilting pop! I love it!

The batting is Quilter’s Dream Poly select and the thread is Superior So Fine#50. Quilter’s Dream Poly is not your grandmother’s polyester batting! It quilts just like a fine cotton batting. It’s lightweight and easy care – machine wash and dry – with little to no shrinkage. This has become my customers go to batting for predominantly white quilts, baby quilts and large quilts to reduce weight.

LindaLoops – UpCycle T-Shirts!

What happens when it’s storming and your longarm and sewing machine are off? I find other things to cut up and put back together!

Here’s a tutorial for making soft headbands, bracelets or scarves from light weight t-shirts. My granddaughter, Haley is modeling the headband and bracelets.

The knitted shirts naturally curl when cut so any imprinting will be inside the roll. If the shirt has seams they will be on the outside, how fun is that?!

Don’t throw those old, thin, lightweight t-shirts away! UpCycle them! The headbands are so soft to wear, you will wear one everyday!

Quilt of Valor

I’ve done few Quilt of Valor projects lately and this is a great weekend to post them. I think this is a Fons and Porter pattern. Leave me a comment if you know the pattern, I forgot to ask the quiltmaker, Mary!

Mary’s QOV is quilted with Stars and Loops pantograph, perfect for this quilt!

Carol’s QOV has “old gold” coloring which gives it a rich, antique look.

I’m not sure of this pattern, either. Leave me a comment if you know this pattern.

For this quilt, we decided on a basic meander throughout with a corner, middle, corner star treatment in the corners and block centers. This looks great, too.

I quilted another QOV for Joanie but I can’t find any pictures! I hate it when that happens!

New York Beauty Wall Hanging

Ann has created an awesome wall hanging featuring New York Beauty blocks. I had fun developing original quilting designs for this project. It will hang in an old Italian style house so I used Italian tile designs for my influence. Thanks to Pinterest, they were easy to find!The batting is Quilter’s Dream Blend and Dream Puff layered together. Double batting gives lots of texture and allows the quilting detail to pop.

The thread is Superior Threads So Fine 50 in a color that matches the fabrics.

The back is a tea dyed muslin which shows off the quilting detail, too!
